US vs. ARGENTINA 2.8.03 - Miami Orange Bowl 12pm The game vs. Canada was a downer. It was in the Fusion's stadium and the game was not a true contest. US vs. Argentina will be a different matter alltogether. There will be tons of Argentinians in attendance, other South Americans who dislike Argentinians, and maybe even some US fans too. Argentina played against Honduras, and although they won 3-1, it seems that they did so in a sloppy manner. On top of that two argentine players were given red cards and sent off. So , there is another chance for an upset.
Does anyone know if there is another thread someplace else or any website where the expected Argentinian roster is posted?
Here's a preview of Argentina's match vs. Honduras that includes Argentina's roster: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=256373&cc=5901 And here's a match report on Argentina's victory over Honduras: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=256690&cc=5901 I did run across an article a few days ago that listed the Argentinian players by team (by my recollection, all play on S. American teams) but I wasn't able to find the article today.
Please don't post results at least before the game is over on Television. It was tape delayed here and I was careful to avoid the score but I apparently failed. There is no [R] in this thread.
I wouldn't call a win over this Argentine team an upset, not by a longshot. They are good players, yeah, but we will be fielding some very competant players ourselves. By ranking, yes, a win would be an upset, but in reality hardly. It should lead to some good experience for our guys, regardless of the outcome, that's what is important. My tickets should arrive mid-week and I've got the hotel reservations. WOOHOOO!!
Good point, Wolves. But if you wanted to be sure not to know the score prior to watching it tape delayed on TV, perhaps it would have been smart to avoid the internet and in particular websites devoted to soccer.
two birds with one stone The Mexico x Argentina game will apparently be on Telemundo at 10:30 pm EST. Another preview of Argentina, plus many of the Mexican players we're likely to see in the rumored US x Mexico friendly. Mexico doesn't have any of the Pumas or Cruz Azul players, as those teams travel to Brazil this week to kick off their Libertadores campaigns. But it should still be a very good team.
Yes.. I try to be careful here but it doesn't always work..They tend to be really good about it in the US Nats Abroad forum so I got spoiled.

Hondurans are no slouches when it comes to footy. The red card report is a good sign that the Argentines are here to put forth a feisty effort. I can't wait until one of those long hairs is sprawling around on the pitch looking for a cheap call.
Happen to see the Argentina Mexico game last night? The pace was frantic. If some pathetic officiating hadn't allowed Argentina to get away with a blatant penalty, it would've ended 1-1. Still, both those teams played WAY better than the US has against El Salvador or Canada. If the numbers are the same on Saturday, watch out for how 3 tackles, 15's control and work rate, and 11's fearlessness--he took a full clearance in the balls at point blank, and was the end guy in a wall about a minute later. He also took a ball in the head that knocked him to the ground for a while. It will be an upset if the USA pulls this one off. Argentina's defense is very disciplined. We'll have to be very quick and precise to get anything off them--plus they're in season and we're fat and sloppy. A safe bet is that we'll lose 2-0. Sure I'd like to see otherwise, but don't expect it.
Tailgate info Parking lots open at 10am Gates open into the stadium at 10:30am Although Orange Bowl has stated 10am, there's a strong possibility that the USA vs. Honduras @ RFK scenario may occur again, with fans' cars packing the Orange Bowl streets early, jamming downtown traffic to the point that officials will have no choice but to open the lots early to relieve the congestion. The best tailgate spot may be in lot W3 like the most recent USA vs. Colombia match. It's on the same side as the end zone sections the Screaming Eagles and La Norte are shooting for. The parking area is also of good size and far enough away from the stadium that it won't be filled quite as quickly. The parking lot and stadium map can be viewed at http://www.dansoccerzone.com/orange-bowl-parking-lot.jpg with the relevant areas highlighted.
An upset? Both squads are b-sides, or the collection of players who are getting a look for a callup for qualifying. Bielsa says the purpose of his squad is to allow him to look for "spare parts" to play understudies to the European stars. Tthe US is looking at which young players will step forward in qualifying. Overall, I'm not sure why anyone would think it a blow out. The US can hang with the big boys, particularly at home. Remember, young squads don't always have much resemblence to the full squads. Frankly, I think this will be a pretty even match overall, and the US rarely, rarely loses at home. I'm betting on a 1-1 scoreline. Guinho
