Well - not much US related going on. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/index?ver=us&cc=5901 Its the week after the first big round of games and what's the lead - Arsenal. They've got the EPL table up and I assume some fantasy thing to win 1,000 pounds. Again I thought I wanted the US version. Two lead stories today about Vialli and Fulham and England and Euro 2004. Now, I like the EPL. A lot. BUT I WANTED THE US VERSION. IF I WANTED THE EPL VIEW I WOULD HAVE SELECTED THE ENGLAND VIEW. This love / hate / dependent relationship thing we have with ESPN drives me up the wall. I am not surprised ESPN is once again giving short shrift to MLS - but its still eats at me. All we get our second hand, second thought crumbs. Go to the Fox Sportworld website - the picture they have up is Chris Brown of KC celebrating his golden goal. Fox Sportsworld may do things on a tight budget - but they give it their best effort and they do so with the best of intentions. I love Fox Sportsworld Sometimes I hate ESPN.
That woudl have been my guess. But, like I say, FSW does things cheaply but they have good intentions. I can forgive a lot. ESPN (.com) hardly even tries.
let the soccernet editor have it... Andy Hooper i've got all sorts of useful information like this in my media conacts list (link in my signature)
In their defense they did have stories up on Saturday on the front page, and last week had their MLS preview page and a Boot Room link up on the front practically all week. I agree though ESPN treats soccer like crap.
I like www.cybersoccernews.com I have been boycotting ESPN since 98 when they failed to even mention DC United beating Vasco De Gama for the Interamerican Cup. DC United beat the best team from South America winning the right to be called "Champions of the Americas" proving MLS is worthy of respect and not even a mention from ESPN. The hate runs deep and true. The boycott continues.
I e-mailed the website editor. Course, I expect nothing to change. But why make the effort and have folks pick which version they want to see and then plaster it with English stuff anyway.
if i'm reading this right... you guys want US soccernet? click US on the blue left bar, AFTER the "So that we know a little more about" splash screen. The buttons you click on soccernet.com is just to give them an idea who's viewing.
the screen does nothing for the viewer, it's supposed to be a demographic thing for the people at ESPN Soccernet.
There are a few good soccer realted websites that I like in addition to cybersoccernews and BS: http://www.matchnight.com/ for fixtures, scores/attendance http://www.socceramerica.com/ for analysis and better articles http://www.ussocceruk.com for breaking news/interesting articles
The region radio buttoms on soccernet isn't content sensitive. No matter what you pick, I think the first page is the same. Besides, just because you picked your location as USA/Canada, doesn't mean they have to show you MLS news. I am sure there are more English speakers in North America who care about Real - Barca or Borussia Dortmund -Bayern Munich or Juve - Roma or the Liverpool darby or ManUtd - Blackburn this weekend than those who care about who won between NY and LA . If given a choice I would rather watch NY - LA than ManUtd - Blackburn, but I don't expect everyone in North America to have the same preference. I am not an MLSsnob.
Likewise here-- just because I click on Australia/New Zealand as that's my location, I don't expect to receive an influx of news on the NSL, the Socceroos or the All Whites here. If anything, it's going to be as Euro-centric as ever. It's just another useless demographic survey-- useless, because they're only using it to determine where people are logging on from, not to determine what type of content to put up into cyberspace.
There might be a slight difference on how ESPN.com's soccer page looks depending on which version you select. I selected the US version or whatever it's called. When I go to the soccer page, MLS and WUSA choices are all ready displayed on the left (like subheadings). If you select a different version perhaps you have other choices all ready displayed.
