I LOVE this chant and think we should use it as well. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-R8OK4HZrw"]YouTube - Sombrero Chant[/ame]
I've heard this song quite a few times but it ilicits no reaction from the Mexicans. They actually laugh at it.
thats the best part about it in my opinion. its fun and funny. gets the US supporters going without insulting anyone.
I don't know, a rivalry by it's very nature is confrontational. Throwing flowers at each other simply doesnt do it. Imagine if the Celtic supporters starting singing "you stole my hat" to Rangers supporters. They would be the laughing stock of Scotland. Well the Mexicans laugh at us when they hear that song. I'll never sing that song, only because I'm not looking to get laughed at by Mexicans. I take this rivalry seriously, same thing with chants that sound like Nursery Rhymes. Sorry I'm just not doing them. I'm not looking to make friends with the Mexicans "during the game", I want USA to win. After the game, its a different story but during the game, its everyone for themselves.
i want the USA to win too. i think there are enough songs that support the USMNT and i think that this song does that as well. it is fun for our supporters. it is easy for people to sing, it gets people involved and it sounds cool. i dont give a fug if the mexicans laugh or not. its fun and funny for us, thats what is important. i think it gets people involved. i wont touch the celtic/rangers thing with a 10 foot pole, dont want to get frankie upset.
I understand your point. I know its a funny song and I know it gets people involved. I'm not blind to that. I just see things slightly differently. This is a rivalry and in my opinion it has to be as confrontational as possible. I'm not for going out and beating people up but throwing an insult here and there hurts no one. Maybe it hurts a few egos but thats it. Again Duke, please don't take it like I'm against you, I'm not. I just come from a different culture where a rivalry is seen very differently. I bring that feeling to this rivalry because thats how I see it and how I feel it. Its how I live it. With regards to the sombrero song, I hate that the Mexicans laugh at us. Its worse for me because I understand what they are saying and in what context they say it in. Worse of it all, the Mexicans can't chant worth shit and the Sombrero song just gives it up to them.
7pm - im going right from work - ill probably just grab a slice of pizza or two and will probably get there about 6-630 Frankie - you staying in the city? Wanna meet up for piza or something?
And I'll be with the cool kids in NYC happy that the ESC and NJB are there to cheer on our boys and are 600 miles away from us!
dont worry, i dont take it all personally or think that you are against me. i understand what you are saying, and i know how you feel. i think at this point in the history of USMNT support the key is getting people involved, getting people singing and being vocal. whatever gets people involved is good in my mind.
