Will someone please tell me in financial terms why we are not going to be able to watch this friendly in the US on an English language channel. Who holds the rights to this broadcast?
Cuz only 5% of people who may have watched soccer in the past give a sh&#t about watching a freindly US soccer game. For some "only god-knows" reason, they would rather watch a bunch of cars race around a track for 3 hours. The 5% who want to watch can only do so much to embellish the ratings. sorry. I'm one of those 5%. It has been 35 years of frustration for me.
None of this is untrue, but I imagine a live US friendly on Fox Sports World gets as good or better ratings than anything else FSW could show on a Wednesday night, including a ManU rerun. Don't really know how they did with US-Mexico, but imagine it was pretty strong for a digital tier cable channel. I don't think they passed on this game - I imagine either they'll show it, or the game passed on them.
Ditto what Casper said. I don't see how re-run/4th or 5th choice EPL game can compare to a US match against a Central American country. If it were against Haiti, it'd be different. But I'd imagine there's no way FSW would willingly pass this up if offered it at a reasonable price.
AOL Instant Messanger Chat Rooms EDIT - According to ussoccer.com The Match will be shown on June 2, 2004 Telemundo, 11:30 p.m. ET & PT (SDD) EDIT again, just noticed you were talking about why no English language TV. No answer other than that its too fricken expensive for a match almost no-one will watch. Its at 11:30 at night. Too fricken late for people who have to get up early. I'll probably end up Digtally Recording it so I can watch the next evening after work. Also, I'm just glad its on TV
An easy guide for watching soccer on Telemundo - Reyna = Reeey-na Landon = LANdon Convey = CONvay DeMarcu = DeyMARCos Arena = A-RAIN-a ball = Pee-low-ta corner = esquina beer = cerveza cheap, meaningless goal - goooooooolgolgolgolgol decent goal - Golgolgolgolgolgooooooolllllllaaaaaaazoooooooo. Golazo, golazo. really great goal - sound of Spanish speaking heart attack. All you need to know.
Really hoping FSW comes through and picks this game up like the Mexico friendly. They didn't announce FSW at first as the broadcaster, maybe thats what we'll see with this match as well, but I doubt it.
Live on HDNet! The game will be broadcast in English and in high definition on HDNet! That is three in a row on HDNet. Nothing beats watching soccer in high def. If you don't have it, go out and get it. If you do have it, send a note to HDNet to thank them so more games will come in the future.
MilkDuds please let us know how to send a note to HDNET, I have HD set up but Comcast doesn't offer HDNet apparantly ??? Beastie
Go to www.hd.net There is contact information under the "about us" tab. There is also a tab with information on how to subscribe with a list of carriers. I get mine through DirecTV. Also, this game will be shown live. If you were anywhere close to Cincinnati, I'd invite you over to watch the game. I think there is a list of bars with HDNet on the website. Perhaps you can find a place in Boston.
I got an email back from the CEO of HDNet, Mark Cuban ... he said to call Comcast (1-800-comcast) every day in order to get HDNet on Comcast as a new High Definition channel. Here's his note: ---- "Call them early and often and tell everyone at their local and corporate office you want HDNet and have your friends do the same. We are talking.. so every little bit helps !" - mark ----- When I called comcast they asked me if I wanted the EPL in high def, I told them "my god yah". Beast
Huh. The e-mail I got from him was slightly different: ------- David, Steve Nash and I are holding Lebron James hostage and will perform gay sex acts on him until the refs stop making bad calls against my Mavericks. Sincerely, Mark ------- Very strange...
US vs. Honduras televised? Is this game gonna be televised in the US at all, as opposed to just Telemundo? It doesn't say anything on ussoccer.com about FSW but neither did it mention FSW for the US/Mexico game until like a week before. Anyone know something about this?
Similar threads merged, and kept in the USA Men forum. Seems most appropriate here. And it looks like getting an AIM Chat going on the day and during the match would be the way to go, given the circumstances.
Will any of you with HDNet or whoever is showing the game in English be taping it and putting it on DVD? I'd love to get a copy on VHS or DVD actually. I'm not sure that I'm going to see it. I'm still debating on going to the Galaxy v Sao Paulo game. PM me if you do. Dave
We need Mark Cuban as an MLS owner. Get he and Vergara in the same city and we'd have the most sounbytes out of a rivalry since Spurrier was at Florida. That would be media attention. Lamar Hunt would sell the Burn I'm sure, or we could get them both in Houston. Lamar's not the most photogenic owner out there.
