4 matches: Friendly against Sporting CP Lisbon (I'm assuming their youth/reserve team) Tournament matches against Poland, Slovakia, and Portugal U-19 teams. Should be tough and a very good test, essentially playing a year up against good competition.
True but barring a few players this is as strong of a team the U18 could possibly field. Looking forward to seeing how they stack up
Our team isn't really playing a year up. This is a tournament for 94s and younger, and our roster includes a ton of 94s (Fehr, Guido, McBean, Dunn, Oliver, Rodriguez, Serna), as well as a few guys like Acosta who'd be on our first-choice team of 94s.
We don't have our best u-19 eligible players though. This team would look very different with Gil in the midfield and Bijev and Pelosi on he field as well. However, they are on the U-20 trip. We are using no players who are technically U-19. They are 93s but are U-19 players.
When did Jordan Allen become a defender and Kellyn Acosta a MF. Rochester, NY representin'! Be honest did anyone think Achtzehn Akademie, Germany was one of the players like I did.
Very curious seeing how Javier runs a team. He was rumored to take on the U20 team at one time. Let's see if his resume will translate to results
Nice to see Andrew Oliver back with a youth team. His game has holes, but speed and skill is always a nice starting point at these age levels.
Bijev as in... Villyan Bijev on loan from Liverpool at Fortuna Dusseldorf? If he isn't eligible then why has he been called up for U-20s? Perhaps there's another Bijev?
US tied Sporting 1-1 in a pre-tourney friendly. Guido with an 82nd minute penalty. http://www.ussoccer.com/Social/YNT-...&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest
Article on Jordan Allen: http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-18-M...len-Adapts-to-Right-Back-with-US-U18-MNT.aspx
He's fallen out of the public eye, but hopefully is progressing pretty well. Kind of like Emerson Hyndman at Fulham, who's supposedly one of our best prospects..............who we never, ever mention. At some point I'd like to see him at a camp like this. (especially if he's not going to get any time with the U17s). I realize he's on the young side at only 16, but I'd selfishly like some way to see how he's progressing.
He's U17 young so possibly he could play in a tournament with Junior Flores, Rubio Rubin, Cameron Lindley and the boys. Question for me is R.Williams going to try to get the few European players for qualifying or the U17 World Cup. I hope so.
I like the precedent. Using more skilled forwards and midfielders move back who have some gumption to defend. I think it increases ball skills, athleticism, coming from the back, instead of traditionally using the slower less skilled players to defend.
Fehr doesn't turn 18 for several more months. Would be interesting to know whether he's planning to stay in Basel beyond then, or whether he'll look to sign a pro contract elsewhere.
