The UK newspaper The Times is reporting on a study, soon to come out, that classifies more than half of US military personnel as overweight. "Iraq may not have such sophisticated weapons, but its soldiers at least fit their uniforms better." Ouch! http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-484127,00.html
The height and weight standards are determined by age. So a 40 years old can pretty much be a lardo. As long as that 40 years old guy can do 2 pushups he can stay in.
The thing this article proves is that you can twist facts and numbers. It also proves that most of US military personel are abovethe BMI.It doesnt prove that they are fat or out of shape. I am curious where many NFL Running Backs, Linebackers etc.. would fall in this category?are they fat, overweight and out of shape?according to this tripe of an article they woulkd be.Heck most hockey and rugby players would also be considered fat by the times logic. Heck according to their logic I am fat .I am 5"11 and about 185.And I am close in build to CJ brown from the Fire.Is he fat? Also, when I got out of basic training (some14 years ago ) I was actualy a good 10 pounds heavier then I am now.But it was solid. And i was in damn good shape (I went through jumpand rangers school, and served in both panama and Iraq at that weight)I would like to see this pencil neck writer do a march in FULL GEAR.I doubt his ass would be able to stand let alone complete it.As a whole the US military is not only the best equiped, but also has the most rigid PT standards. There might be some soft around the waist in DC or in support positions, but your average combat soldier is not Fat and out of shape.
BMI can prove misleading as those with more muscle mass than an average person will have a higher body mass, but be classified as 'overweight.' Body fat % is the better way to go.
