wishing: a happy anniversary to the us soccer team for their victory over portugal in the world cup, beating #5 portugal 3-2. wilbon gives props to bruce arena as the best addition to us soccer <he said even better than freddy adu> and the reason they are where they are...
I was suprised. Happy happy time Happy anniversary to US soccer, on this day you blah 3-0 blah hanged on to win 3-2. *highlights shown* "Yeah, we always talk about freddy ah-do, but the best guy for US soccer is Bruce Arena"
They have been talking a good deal about soccer lately on PTI. However, one of the hosts (Kornheiser) knows absolutely nothing about the great game.
That was nice of them. I wish they could have added that Victoria street is opening up this saturday.
I'm amazed how much coverage soccer is getting in "mainstream" sports media. Everyone in mainstream sports media (MSM from now on) is honest, most MSM writers/pundits claim to know little about the sport and admit to not caring about soccer in general. But MSM writers/pundits (MSMWP from now) are acknowlodging the sport for its worth, and you can plainly see that soccer is being covered in MSM (Champs Leagues scores, etc.) at least on the level that MSM covers other sports that are lucky to be covered at all. I put soccer equal to the level of tennis, just under golf, maybe equal to motor racing in MSM, which is saying alot, because maybe only two, three years ago, our favorite sport was definately much much lower on the Totem Pole than tennis, golf, motor sports. Personally, I think soccer is destined to hold a place in American sports lore equivelent to say, professional ice hockey, within the next five to ten years. I would be thrilled if that is true, and I honestly believe it is very plausable.
