From the "OK, I'm Really Anal Department" - In the release at USSoccer.com announcing the 23 players Bruce called in for the El Salvador game, it said that 11 uncapped players had gotten called in. 1. Wade Barrett 2. Adin Brown 3. Brian Dunseth 4. Daniel Hernandez 5. Kyle Martino 6. Chad McCarty 7. Eric Quill 8. Nick Rimando 9. Eddie Robinson 10. Ryan Suarez 11. Taylor Twellman However, they made a mistake. On Sept. 8, 1999 the senior team played a friendly against Jamaica in Kingston. The game ended in a 2-2 tied and in the 68th minute Chad McCarty came in for Eddie Pope to earn his first and, so far, only cap. So, only 10 uncapped players have actually been called in for this friendly. Like I said, it's really anal but I have a thing for details and accuracy. BTW, also getting their first - and in some cases, only - caps in that game were a motley crew that included Kevin Hartman, Steve Cherundolo, Henry Gutierrez, Chris Albright, Josh Wolff and Billy Walsh.
In the Jamaica friendly, Walsh came on in the 90th minute for Wolff. He only played in whatever injury time there was and will most likely never come close to another cap, but, he can tell his grandkids that he played for the US Senior National Team.
C'mon Billy Walsh was the MVP of the 1999 Metros! OK, so my Tuesday night rec league team could have beaten that bunch, and they were universally regarded (or at least in Germany) as the "Worst Football Team on the Planet," at least until the 2001 Mutiny came along... Tom
I'm not sure, Tom. I think that the last edition of the Mutiny might've taken the 99 version of the Metros. Of course, we'll never know. But we can be fairly sure it would've looked like two blind teams from the Special Olympics playing without the beeping ball.
that's the type of story that usually happens to a future coach, kind of like Bruce's single cap. So we now know who will be a future coach of the Nats.
It was only a "half international" because half were US players and the other half were foreigners. Winoman
