Can someone please answer this? If this is supposed to be the 2nd biggest domestic Cup, and it is, putting it mid-week in a stadium we supposedly control seems dumb. No doubt there is something going on that weekend, but don't we have eminent domain or something? If the USSF marginalizes the Open Cup, so will the fans.
Didn't the Crew draw something like 18k in their last midweek match? I don't see how a midweek match would effect anything. Throw in a buck-a-brat promotion and they could be on the way to the larest attendance for an open cup game ever.
Agree with the decision, last year finals was a disgrace, played at Fullerton. Either the Crew or the Wizards will draw better then the 4,000 plus fans at Fullerton.
Umm the site hasn't be decided yet, how can you buy tickets when you don't even know where the game is going to take place?
I think Ohio State University has a home football game that Saturday, and if I have my geography right, the Crew Stadium is at the state fairgrounds very near the campus. Could well be that there is no way to hold two events in close proximity.
If we're fortunate enough to win, they don't want the game at CCS that weekend due to the American Quarter Horse Congress at the Fairgrounds. Shane
i hate to be the bearer of bad news... that following weekend is the weekend of the quarterhorse convention at the state fairgrounds right next to ccs and the traffic that it brings is enourmous, hence the game would be on thursday night... sad but true, horses outdraw soccer in columbus (the convention brings millions of dollars to columbus every year and is the biggest convention each year in the city)
Unfortunately, I have to accept this as true. The turnout at the final was a disappointment. Only the real die hards showed up, as there was virtually no promotion in the general press and LAG was essentially silent. You could not even buy tickets from the LAG ticket reps - only through USSF and Ticketbastard. Having said that, it remains to be seen whether KC or Columbus do any better. Unless USSF gets off its butt and promotes the game, it would not surprise me to see numbers not too dissimilar from those in Fullerton. Lets see what the turnout is tonight.
Remember, last years final was promoted (or wasn't) by USSF rather than the Galaxy. The Galaxy managed to get 5k+ there for the semi against Chicagoon. With USSF promoting the match in KC will there even be 100 there?
Sorry for that brief and bad post. Imeant nothing that would conflict with the game was on ticketmaster. But got a phone call before I could write something longer.
Actually, it was 6,871 on a Wednesday. The LA fan base isn't in OC but the northern part of LA. I think that's a pretty damn good attendance to have the stadium 2/3rds full like that. The crap attendance in the final though is down to crap marketing by USSF.
Especially if Columbus gets the match, I'd have to think they'd help promote it even if the USSF was doing it primarily.
