  2. FINAL FROM THE SOCCER FEDS

Chicago Fire Reserves at New Hampshire Phantoms

    . . . 1 2 F
    CHI 2 3 5
    NH. 0 1 1

CHI - Julian Nash 27th minute
    CHI - Julian Nash
    CHI - n/a
    CHI - own goal
    CHI - n/a
    NH - Richard Fleming

I'm sure they're pissed about letting in that late goal. Nash now has at least 4 USOC goals.

CFR travel to Rochester for the third round.

chn71, working on someone else's computer....so, couldn't email your website. anyway, to further your info:
jaychm's first goal was in the 10th minute.
just fyi, the game was poorly officiated....and affected both teams.
cape cod's 2nd goal (pen) was on a cross into the box from 25yds out past the top right corner of the box. wmp got called for pushing a ccc standing on the penalty spot....however, the ball was well high and well past this person. only someone about 10' tall with a 5' vert leap would've gotten this one.

pioneers came out pretty fired up.
seemed to lose posession to easy in the 2nd half.
ccc just pressed forward as a team more in that latter half.

yeah, that about sums it up.
the pen was pretty questionble and we counted at least 2 other times that wmp players were taken down in the top corner of the penalty (and pretty clearly) only to have the ref mark it well outside the box.

i had no real rooting interest here...my usoc pool had ccc winning 3-2 (yes!) but having wmp win would've meant another trip out there in 2 weeks to see their 3rd rnd match v kickers (?).....oh and another kick ass portuguese dinner down the block from the stadium.

    ----------------------------------------

What does the position of the ball have to do with whether or not that was a foul? You said the player was pushed? Sounds like a PK, no?

My bet is that the person fouled was neither passing, nor in any reasonable position to be a target of the pass. There's always lots of off-the-ball pushing and shoving. I suppose if it was an egregios infraction, a yellow card might be warranted. But a penalty kick, I doubt it. But I'm not a ref.

Anyone else get the feeling that the PSL is being exposed a bit here? Aside from the Hammerheads win, the PSL-PDL matches were rather one-sided -- two blowouts, one 3-2 win and a scoreless draw.

That doesn't seem to be a fluke. PDL teams are more than holding their own when the teams are paired up in USL play.

I'm not sure how well they can convince people that these are "professional" sides.
