Re: Re: US National Team - MLS All-Stars (Saturday, 8/3) pregame thread

Garber mentioned it in his speech Friday.

Not sure about a road trip to see the All-Star Game there, but I'm keen on another trip to SoCal for MLS Cup, though the party would have to shift to Long Beach, Los Angeles, or Orange County.

Pasadena rules for its bars and eateries, that's why 1998 was the best.

    Maybe, call this game?

Not complaining. I think it's great for LA fans and great that it's so close we can roadtrip down there. Just looking for any excuse to call their fans "scum," what with Wednesday on the horizon... ;)

As much as it is, Victoria Street/Home Depot Center is very impressive. I'll go out on a limb and say it looks way better than Columbus Crew Stadium, though I'll believe it when I see it for myself.

    Can't wait for 2003 already.

No quips on the halftime show please.

Soccerhead in the House--thought he was going to stay put, but unless he got the call to hang, he's in the stands. A much better guy than Rollen Stewart (the John 3:16 fan).

Landon Donovan scores on roommate/teammate Joe Cannon for the US goal.

Jason Kreis sets up former teammate Ariel Graziani for the equaliser from the MLS All-Stars, and they didn't get along in Dallas.

Someone hire a fashion advisor for Veronica!!!!

Cannon looks very shaky right now--Mulrooney very sharp, Barrett a little quiet right now, and two Quakes with a goal each.

At 3:00 PDT the game will switch to ESPN...

elainemichelle is the new heroine--at least she knows how to take the blows and dish them right back... if I had to dish out the same stuff I did, she would mark them with a comeback and know that I'm kidding around.

the game is now on ESPN.

If you're watching Channel 7, Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope, is now on. It starts with a long time ago in a Galaxy far far away...

Joe is starting to settle down now...

    Cheers!

    Bummer!
I don't have cable (horrors!) so I was hoping ABC 7 would be keeping the feed from the game. Instead I'm now watching Star Wars.

I thought Goodsport would make some kind of "Landon Donovan: A New Hope" joke.

At least I got a friend to Tivo it.

Could the announcers kiss Donovans ass any more?! Donovan this, Donovan that, Donovan has his hand up, Donovan scratches his balls, Donovan isnt in the play, Donovan is gay, Donovan at the back post (With 4 other guys), Donovan is open...

Yippee a bit reeling from C-3P0 and R2-D2. Let's hip it's not the one in which Jabba the Hutt is some thin guy and not usual the slug icon.

Dema Kovalenko rules for his slide tackle on club teammate DaMarcus Beasley. It doesn't matter if that guy is your teammate elsewhere--if he wears a different color shirt, you got to take him down. Ditto if the club teammate is the keeper--you're going to score on him. If the club teammate is the forward, you're going to try and stop him.

Nice and sticky--Veronica to Landon. No shirt contests or exchanges.

Since there is an [R] in this thread I will post the result: MLS All-Stars 3, US Team 2. Game over!

Etcheverry's English has improved a bit.

That was not our Guy in the stands.

A very wet one on the pitch--the slick field and ball played a role in the game, not to mention the weather delay.

Keep the format. It made for a competitive game.

And Landon, don't expect team switches in this one.

    Cheers!

    1) Joe is the best mudder in the league.

    2) What World Cup was Jack Edwards watching in '94? Gushing about Marco Etcheverry coming to the US to play after having a brilliant WC'94...what? His WC'94 history lasted all of 8 minutes! Nice for him to win the MVP today, though. Well deserved. And full marks to El Diablo for his command of the English language. Every player who comes to MLS from another country should look up to him as a role model.

    3) What would Bud Selig have done with this game?

Jack must be referring to COMEBOL qualifying for USA 1994. He had a few minutes in the final and then got the boot and never saw another game in that tournament.

Just have to wish that adidas would do another ad with him in it. The one being where he got his shoes blessed by a priest.

    Cheers!

It could have been, but you can't argue with the sentimental choice. Joe will have more chances at that kind of hardware.

Oh, yeah, one other thing...does Graziani lead the free world in hitting the hardware?

ME TOO!! hey at least it was a unanimous decision that Tay is one of the best up-and-coming prospects for the National team!

Personally...I was enjoying the Landon coverage...but wow clearly the Quakes DOMINATED that game!

If this keeps up my new name will have to be Austin Powers, though it might be something else like Beavis or _____ or the Quakes version of _________. :D

Either that or mud wrestling against Paulina Rubio. Perfect day for that.

In response to your comment on teammates going at each other:

Bob Bradley must be fuming at Kovalenko right now for that. It's part of the game.

    Cheers!
