I tried searching on google for a list of every head coach the US National Team has ever had. I couldn't find anything. Does anyone know where I could find a list like that? Or maybe we could put one together ourselves. Bruce Arena (1998 - current) Steve Sampson (1995 - 1998) Bora Milutinovic (1991 - 1995) John Kowalski (1991) Bob Gansler (1989 - 1991) I have no idea what came before Bob Gansler. - Paul
Two others were Alkis Panagoulias and Walt Chyzowych. You should check the American Soccer History Archives. You might have to do some digging, and it may not all be there, but I'll bet most of it is!
Thanks for the responses. I did look on Dave Litterer's site, but I could not find any mention of national team coaches. I will try digging a bit more on there. I'll update the list of coaches below. I was able to find the years of their reigns by searching for their names on Google. Bruce Arena (1998 - current) Steve Sampson (1995 - 1998) Bora Milutinovic (1991 - 1995) John Kowalski (1991) Bob Gansler (1989 - 1991) ??? Lothar Osiander (1986 - 1988) ??? Alkis Panagoulias (1983 - 1986) ??? Walt Chyzowych (1976 - 1980) The ??? indicates that there should be or might be another coach or coaches that belong in that position of the timeline. - Paul
Re: Re: US National Team coaches Believe it or not, I believe that Walt's brother Gene Chyzowych served very briefly as national team coach (just enough to put it on the resume). Also, are you sure that Walt Chyzowych only served from 76-80? I think that time frame is way, way too small. It seemed like he was the national team coach forever.

How come they didn't play many games back in the early 1900's? Was it because soccer wasn't as popular, or because Full Internationals weren't as popular like they are today?
No idea. That's why a book needs to be written about the history of the national team. The media guide provides data but no context.
USA's results in international matches over the years are at the Archive of International Football Results. http://www.staff.city.ac.uk/r.j.ger...871&TOYEAR=2001&COMP=0&TABULAR=0&DATAVER=10.0 Seeing how little USA played in international competion prior to 1972 really helps give a better appreciation of how amazing our 1-0 victory over England was at the 1950 World Cup.
USSF (1913-2003) http://www.ussoccer.com/news/fullstory.sps?iNewsid=25790&itype= This is actually a good start. It will be nice to learn more about the history of US Soccer.
