Kicker is reporting interest in former VfB Stuttgart and current Hoffenheim coach Matarazzo (who is American). https://www.kicker.de/us-verband-will-matarazzo-1042072/artikel
Don't see how it makes sense for him though. He is a hot property with a club and has far greater upside there
Cade Cowell has had a magnificent beginning of the season with chivas. 10 appearances across all comps with 7 goals! Glad to see some development from him, hope he keeps it up
Programming Note: The US Men's match vs Canada in KC on Saturday 9/7 got moved to 4pm. It'll still be on TBS and Max. This is good news for people who want to watch before heading to the Crew game vs Seattle that night.
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure this is the best hire, but it’s a huge fvcking swing, no one can complain about USSF being cheap now. 🚨🇺🇸 Mauricio Pochettino becomes the new USMNT manager, leading the US to World Cup 2026.After contacts with several managers, former Chelsea and Spurs head coach says yes to proposal and project, as per reports in US overnight.Poch’s back. 🤝🏻 pic.twitter.com/e6JmmU2AGz— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 15, 2024
Literally everyone has been screaming for a non-American coach who has managed at the very highest levels. This is about as close to that as we could get. My hope is that he can be the Southampton, Spurs version when the pressure is less than what he has gotten at PSG and Chelsea. Those teams had lots of wonderful skill and played attractive soccer but were not the favorites against many teams. Compared to PSG or Chelsea which are both about as dysfunctional as you can get.
Some additional context from Mark about Pochettino's contract situation as it relates to previous employers Chelsea... #usmnt https://t.co/xHTLRfBwkq pic.twitter.com/hGSAHG8yPX— Jeff Carlisle (@JeffreyCarlisle) August 15, 2024
Really like the hire, not sure MLS only coaches have what it takes to make the next step. Feel like someone from the outside is going to be able to push these guys. Tyler Adam's was quoted in the last week or two ""For myself and the young team and kind of where we’re at, I think we need someone that’s almost a little bit ruthless,". Hoping we can get some decent European or South American teams to participate in the Gold Cup next year. We won't have any real tests otherwise until WC2026.
And before that he said country club Gregg was exactly what the team wanted. I like Adams a lot, but he needs to do a lot less talking and a lot more staying healthy and playing.
I've been talking to some friends, and Adams sure talks like a company man, or what the kids say, a fed.
I like the hire. Then again, back in the day, I liked the Klinsmann hire, so perhaps my opinion isn't the most insightful on this topic.
I'm not all that familiar with this guy. I tend to focus my soccer energy inside the USA. But from what little I've heard, there are Wilifred Nancy concerns with him: Some of the things he likes to implement require a lot of details, and a lot of time to make it work right. Time that you don't get with a national team the way you do with your club teams.
American CB Mark McKenzie has moved from Belgian side Genk, where he excelled for the past few seasons, to French side Tolouse (Moreira's former club). It will be interesting to see how he performs in a higher quality league than Belgium, which is pretty equal to MLS nowadays in terms of overall quality.
I agree with this. I watched him a bit when he was at Spurs and last year at Chelsea. He did have the kids playing well at Chelsea despite all the ownership dysfunction, but it took a while.
Unless poch gets done this week, we might down to the u20 coach? Unless Marko signs a short term agreement BREAKING: San Diego FC is finalizing a deal to name Mikey Varas the first manager in club history, sources tell @GiveMeSport.Not 100% done yet but at final stage.Varas was an assistant under Berhalter at Copa America & previously U.S. U-20 manager. https://t.co/pqjKgqgiZt— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) August 27, 2024
