what a farce of a VAR offsides against that first Ecuador goal! corruption knows no bounds but no matter Ecuador scores again!
Was I missing something. They show the VAR line w/the leg on why no goal, but there's another defender they don't show keeping him onside. Was I missing something there? Looked 1000% onside because of the other player, not the one shown on the leg image.
Where was the extra player? Seemed like a good call to me. By the rules as thy exist, at least... I know many do not like these close VAR offside calls.
(2) Dale Johnson on Twitter: "This is what happened with the disallowed goal. The ball came off Felix Torres, who was challenging the keeper. It fell to Michael Estrada, whose foot you can see in an offside position. He headed the ball back to Torres. Correct VAR decision! #QatarWorldCup2022 #QATECU https://t.co/451TjTjGYK" / Twitter
What are the Dutch going to do to Qatar? My god, it might be Germany vs Saudi Arabia 2002 redux. Van Gaal doesn't seem the type to take his foot off the gas.
Reminder that Qatar lost last summer to a US team featuring 12 players who didn't make our World Cup squad.
It is now 2-0 and Qatar looks like rank amateurs. Qatar is NOT even playing at the level of our own Honduras. This "could" end up 7 or 8 to 0 quite easily.
Now this one looked like he was actually off. Make up call as VAR is realizing that this game ain’t going to be close so might as well not call attention to the corruption
I wonder if Qatar could end up with 7 or 8 players. Maybe we will luck out and Qatar will not come out of the locker room for the second half. They are absolutely embarrassingly horrible.
Remember the posters around here saying again and again that beating Qatar in the gold cup meant something because they were the champions of Asia? we could see with our own eyes at the time that they were crap. They will certainly be among the worst couple teams in this World Cup if not the worst.
This Qatar is identical to the one that made the semis of the Gold Cup 21 except for the keeper (they had Barsham instead of this very nervous Al Sheeb). It's also close to the team that played the Copa America (3-and-out) except for Boudiaf (they had Assim Madibo then), Homam Ahmed (they had Tarek Salman) and Al Rawl (they had Bassam Hisham then). They played this same keeper in South America, Al Sheeb. Personally, I think Qatar can play better than this. They just started very, very nervous.
Praising Qatar for being champions of Asia is similar to praising a club team for winning the Canadian Premier League. If you beat nobody in nothing tournaments then you really have shown no quality which is exactly what Qatar has shown.
You're underestimating them. They started super-nervous, specially the defenders and keeper. Once they can control their nerves, they're going to play better. If Ecuador is not careful, they can tie this one (and worse with Valencia likely out for the second).
