US-Haiti March 13th 8 p.m. ET AIM/PBP Info As this game is not available on standard cable in the US, i'm sure there'll be plenty of people lining up for the AIM chatrooms once again. The game will be broadcast live on HDNet. Do we have any BSers with HDNet willing to do a PBP on BS or through the AIM chatroom system we've been using? I'm sure BS will be having server problems during the game (which the usually have for non-cable USMNT games) so they'd probably like to preserve as much server space as possible. If no one has HDNet or is willing to do a PBP we will probably be using MT for updates. Here are the instructions for getting into the gameday AIM Chatrooms: Once in AIM, click the people tab at the top of the AIM window, then scroll down and select "Send Chat Invitation" In the "Screen Names to Invite" box, input your screen name" In the "Chatroom Name" box, type in BigSoccerPBP Click send chat invitation. We will probably fill up several chatrooms, if you try to enter the first room and it gives you a chatroom is full message, use BigSoccerPBP2, if that's full BigSoccerPBP3, and so on. You do not need to be an AOL user to be in these chatrooms, AOL Instant Messager (AIM) is a free service that can be downloaded here Nancy, do you want to sticky this until gametime?
Re: US-Haiti March 13th 8 p.m. ET AIM/PBP Info What's HDNet? I assume it's a channel that shows HDTV broadcasts? Does that mean you need an HDTV television to watch it? Will the game be available on pay-per-view?
HF: There's a brief writeup about it here: http://www.ussoccer.com/events/report.sps?iEventID=13370&eventreports=3091 "HDNet is the first all high definition national television network and is currently available to high definition viewers on DirecTV, Dish Network and cable providers like Time-Warner and Adelphia." Sounds like DirectTV viewers can get the game via PPV. Hello soccer pub....
I put an email in to USSoccer to see if they knew of any radio broadcasts for the game, haven't gotten a response yet. I highly doubt there will be any haitian stations broadcasting given the domestic situation.
Folks - I moved the link to the article from the Fire to US Men, along with related posts. Let's keep this thread to the topic of how to watch/monitor the game.
I just got HDNet through Directv and its is absolutely fantastic. Games are amazing on HiDef. I can't wait to see this Nats game on HD.
I don't have HDnet, but I have Direct Tv and they list this game as PPV, have no idea yet how much they charge. EPL games usualy are $15.95 and internationals anywhere from $19.95 to $24.95,
Still no word on radio, I think we're goin gto be in the dark on this one except for those with HDNet.
Pretty good chance that I'll spring for it on DTV and be available do some AIM PBP. Cross yer fingers that Mrs. Bird doesn't nix the idea
Yeah, I think it's $20 on DirecTV PPV. If you don't have HDnet or DTV, you're SOL. All about HDnet: For HDnet, you need an HDTV, a HD set-top receiver (contact your cable or satellite provider), as well as the HD satellite dish if you have satellite. I believe it's on Dish as well as DirectTV. If your cable company doesn't have it, they'll probably have it by the summer. Cable companies are adding it all over the place. If you have DirecTV, I heard something about needing a triple-line LNB. Some sort of fancy satellite dish. It's channel 199 I think, and if you have a regular dish, it won't even show up. If you have a regular TV, you can connect your HD receiver via S-Video, but the quality is a little fuzzy, not to mention the ratio. HDnet broadcasts at a 16:9 ratio, compared to the 4:3 ratio of a regular TV. Anyone remember those MLS games that were only on FSW and HDnet? You'd probably be looking at a picture like that. For best quality, get the HDTV. Most domestic games will still be on regular TV (satellite, espn family, FSW, direct kick), so right now it seems that HDnet is just a fancy add-on.
As one of the many without directtv or hdtv, I hope very few people order the PPV game so they don't feel obliged to go ahead and continue trying to get us to pay more for something that should be on espn... especially since it is a game that doesn't have our best starter anywhere near the timezone its in. But that's just greedy-old-me's opinion
Eddie Pope, Carlos Bocanegra, Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, and Bobby Convery don't qualify as our "Best Starters"?
He said "best starter"--singular, in which case he's referring to....? Reyna perhaps, Mathis maybe, Howard....? Mcbride? But Howard is not our starting goalie, so that takes him out. I think you could make a case for Reyna as our best player, actually he's the most consistent after the goalies imo. Mathis? I guess a bandwagoner could say that. Mcbride perhaps.
Anybody able to launch matchtracker yet? I'm usually able to get it going about 20 minutes before game time, but it just keeps saying status upcoming.
U must have it typed in wrong, the real room has well over 20 ppl now. I've invited you and sent you an AIM message, are you getting any of them?
