You'd have to ask Sarachan I guess. Frei attended camp in Jan 2017. In Jun 2017 he became eligible to play for the USMNT. In October 2018 he told Sounder At Heart that he'd heard nothing from the NT in over a year.
Only if he gets a better haircut. He looked like they just found him at a Seattle homeless shelter. At least they have an excuse since he draws a decent enough paycheck to afford a better cut than that. The problem with US keeping right now is after Steffen there are a whole bunch of players that are somewhat comparable but none of them are close to challenging Steffen. Horvath leeds the pack but he just can't buy a game. He needs to push for a trade or talk to Spector's mom.
Going bald would be the best thing he could do for his USMNT prospects. You could say the same for all our prospective keepers too I guess
You have to know when the shaved head is going to be your best look. Can't believe the lengths guys will go to to pretend they still have hair. The comb-over, the clown, I once saw a guy with hair down to his ass but he was bald. Also saw a Dilbert where a guy combed over his hairy eyebrows.
cutting your hair has also proven go make you more aerodynamic. That wind drag reduction significantly helped Howard, Friedel, Keller, and Hahnemann
Bill Hamid played all 90 minutes tonight. So I asked Gregg Berhalter what he made of his goalkeepers in camp throughout the week, including Philadelphia native @CjDossantos1: pic.twitter.com/NYSVQmFoMR— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) December 10, 2020
What do we make of "The Other Guys," goalkeepers in smaller leagues abroad, and what are the odds they can earn a spot? For your consideration: 1. Josh Cohen - Seems like the locked-in starter at league leader Maccabi Haifa in Israel. Before that, one of the best keepers in USL at Sacramento (also Phoenix). Wonder if he is eligible/holding out for Israel. I suspect GGG will start getting questions about him sooner or later. But don't watch the highlights of their game against Tottenham. Stay on your feet, Josh! 2. William Popp - Just reading about this guy in YA. Japanese player with an American father. Started 38 games in J2, on loan from Japan's top team. Just transferred to another midtable J-League side. But if he were to become a starter in J1, 6'4, only 26, he becomes interesting. In the past, the problem with Japan is that if a keeper gets good enough for USMNT interest, he's probably good enough for Japan, especially if he's 6-4 (see Daniel Schmidt below). Right now, I'm not sure if that's as big of an obstacle. 3. Mike Lansing - Played some with Horsens in Denmark. Transferred to Aalesund in Norway. Hasn't played there yet. Based solely on resume, hard to see him beating out Horvath or the best MLS keepers. 4. Daniel Schmidt - Japanese-American with seemingly minimal ties to the USA. But he is the starting keeper at St. Truden in Belgium (Durkin's club). Has played seven times for Japan. Don't know if he's actually cap-tied, but seems pretty entrenched in their group. 5. Jake McGuire - On the books at Orebro in Sweden. Just got there after lower level stint. Still young. On the books in Philly once upon a time. 6. Kevin Piedrahita - This guy has sat on some fabulous benches in Colombia - America de Cali. La Equidad. Currently with Leones in the second division. How good do you have to be to drift through Columbia? I don't know.

Didn't mean to slight Dos Santos or Odunze. But they're YNT keepers. Just wanted to highlight some more obscure possibilities.
How obscure do you want to get? We have two keepers from Alaska to consider. Hunter Sulte, a homegrown for the Portland Timbers, and Ben Machini. 24 yr old Alaska-born 🇺🇸🇸🇪 dual nat goalkeeper, Ben Machini, signs with Swedish 3rd tier side Sollentuna FF on a free transfer from Hammarby https://t.co/HLcFqG5yV6— 🇺🇸 ⚽ east (@eastdeflection) December 28, 2020
There were a few guys in Scandinavia that I left out who were judgment calls. I wouldn't have added a third-div. Sweden keeper until he moved up to the top league.
I take it Tim Murray was the GK of the year in Finland. But that's a really low level. But bully for him.
Club Brugge has put Ethan Horvath on the transfer list and will be listening to offers in the January transfer window. Horvath has seen limited action since Simon Mignolet's arrival at the club. pic.twitter.com/nYfRLVYffw— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) December 28, 2020 Almost criminal to not have taken a good look at Matt Turner yet (still at zero caps), given our top two goalkeepers almost never play actual professional soccer games...
Can Turner hang with Horvath or Steffen? Didn't he get his Lithuanian passport? He should be trying to head abroad by summer.
If Turner's as good as those two he should be getting offers. And he may be but if not then teams aren't agreeing with posters here.
So, Steffen is set to start against Chelsea on Sunday. Horvath is up for sale by Brugge. Has Matt Turner gotten his EU passport yet? Dude needs to make his play soon.
Steffen didn't have much to do in the first half. One bad moment when he picked up a back pass. Other than that he's been comfortable playing it out of the back. Not many saves to make. [Not pictured here are Kasey Keller and Marcus Hahnemann.] 🚨 Unofficial PLinUSA Fact 🚨Zack Steffen is the first non-bald American goalkeeper to play in the PL since 2002 🧐 pic.twitter.com/wAo7Cvc2SR— Premier League USA (@PLinUSA) January 3, 2021
8th American keeper to play in the Premier League. That's not too shabby when you consider the plaudits and records Friedel and Howard have made in the league. They are still in the top 10 with number of cleansheets. Not on the level of a Cech or Schmeichel or Van der Sar but up there with the Schwarzer's or Reina's or Lloris'.
Happy Howardmass. Only 5 goalkeepers have scored in Premier League history; two are American. From goalkeeper to goalscorer 🚀On this day in 2012, @TimHowardGK scored for @EvertonInUSA from 100 yards out 🎯 pic.twitter.com/rrN6ex8wqA— Premier League USA (@PLinUSA) January 4, 2021
