..................plus America-born players like Boaz Myhill. No hope of getting into the US pool. Represented Wales. He was also in the premier league with Hull in that 08-09 time frame, and then again with West Brom. Steffen is basically in the position that Howard was in his early 20s. If Zack establishes himself as a Premier League caliber keeper (which he's certainly capable of), then I think we'll all feel a lot more comfortable with the USMNT's keeper situation for the next decade. Even if he ends up making a move away from the Champions League-caliber clubs in order to become a first choice keeper................like Howard did. Hell, I'd be happy if Steffen moved from City to Everton. Horvath is stuck. People talk about confusing club situations all the time. Sometimes keepers just get stuck as backups with nowhere to go. I've never been as big of a Horvath fan as others, but he shouldn't be holding a clipboard in the Belgian League.
Probably the best keeper with the ball at his feet in the pool. His distribution is much better than many other keepers in the pool too. Finally, hes shown hes a pretty darn good shot stopper too. Hes effectively the best option that we have for the Olympic pool by a long shot. hes slightly on the shorter side at 6'1, but there are plenty........plenty of keepers who make it work at that height. What he provides otherwise compensates for that.
Take the rankings with a colossal grain of salt, but here's a list of some U24 goalkeepers of interest. No Ochoa and Cervantes seems like an oversight. The list doesn't have Klinsmann, but two of Klinsmann's backups at the Galaxy. Odd. Just use the list as a group of names to keep an eye on. Alright so I posted my top U24 American gks back in August but a lot has happened since then so here’s an updated list for everyone to get even more upset about pic.twitter.com/EJbNzdMmHm— Everybody Soccer (@letsallsoccer) October 26, 2020
A lot of folks seem intrigued by Chris Brady. Note the list above has him as the top domestic youngster. Promising start for the Homegrown GK 🔥@Brady00Chris @ForwardMSNFC— Chicago Fire FC (@ChicagoFire) November 2, 2020
I watched the Brugge UCL match the other day and I was surprised at Mignolet's performance. He gave up two goals. Neither were bad goals and one could argue that they were tough shots. But a top keeper should have kept one of those out of the net. Yet poor Horvath got in one game, did very well IMO, then back to the bench.
With Kinnear taking charge in LA, Klinsmann Jr. didnt get relegated to the bench, he got got omitted from the squad completely. Bingham back to starting and Vom Steeg deputizing. Marcinkowski has done plenty good enough to get brought in for Camp Cupcake. Pretty much the most interesting domestic goalkeeping option by default
yup, we desperately needed this. He is above the "dont suck" quotient too, so for me thats bumps him above the Sean Johnson/Bill Hamid priority list. I want him as the high priority starter for Camp Cupcake, with Turner in the mix as direct competition as well. Guzan maybe as a veteran presence.
Klinsmann was injured. He made the bench for Kinnear's first game and is still the presumptive 2nd. Bingham's contract is up this season and he won't be back. What happens this off-season will signal what they think of Klinsmann.
Timbers have signed a homegrown keeper from Alaska Big dude. At 18 he's 6'7". “This is what I want to do… I see myself doing something I love.”Get to know the story of Hunter Sulte, and how a 13-year-old from Alaska chose the professional path and at 18 became the newest Timbers Homegrown Player. 6'7" is some serious height. IF he has the quickness and agility to get down for the low shot then his size is a huge plus. So hard to beat keepers on free kicks with that kind of reach.
Its gotta be interesting to coach goalkeepers who are that tall. You would be spending so much time focusing on getting low and focusing on low shots.
i remember my best friend who' s only into basketball and American football visited me years ago and I was explaining some players on Liverpool's squad and he kept asking why 6'7 Peter Crouch wasn't a keeper
There are many top GKs over 6'3"... 6'6" - Van der Saar, Courtois 6'5" - Cech 6'4" - Neuer, Buffon I could see those 5 being top 10 all time.. List of the tallest. https://howtheyplay.com/team-sports/10-Tallest-Goalkeepers-in-the-World
There have been plenty of keepers that tall over time. But you are correct that its a big IF. I was a tad over 6'1" so hardly that tall. But it was a rare rare day when I got beat with any shot over knee high. But if you could shoot it low and hard to a corner well that was my tough save. But its a pick your poison. Given to equally athletic keepers I would much rather have a taller guy than a shorter guy if for no other reason that they can control the aerial game much better.
true but most keepers tend to be 6'2 or 6'3. Iker Casillas was barely 6'0 same as Brighton's no.1 i'd wager a 6'7 keeper has it a tad harder than a 6'2 guy.
