So let’s move a RB that starts for Barcelona into a position he has never played well with at USMNT for……. DeAndre Yedlin? I feel dumb just typing it
The center backs and GK were good. The fullbacks (and wingers, except for Reyna in the second half) weren't.
I wont pretend to understand the logic, tbh. I find it extremely disagreeable, and today further validated that
(P.S. When I said the fullbacks weren't good, that includes Jedi. He still has yet to have his first solid national team performance...)
I am intentionally treading lightly on laying into the coaching and game planning, becauese again, I think recent results dictate a bit of smiling and nodding. But Kelyn Acosta at right back. Why. We have 49 GOOD right back options in our pool. Kelyn Acosta should never.........ever...... ever ever ever ever evvveerrrrrrrrr be playing right back ever again at this level.
There is far less cause to trust Yedlin, Bello or Acosta at FB ffs. Yedlin the supposedly experienced veteran was absolutely useless tonight.
I mentioned in another thread, but will repeat: Dest is nothing but conceited bafoon. Get him the fvck off the team. Not losing the game with him on the field for 60 minutes is a pure luck.
Really, really solid and organized defensively. Since the opponent played a lot of long, high, pop up balls, Championship Ream was in his element, and did quite well. Both Robinsons were good. Dest is going to cost us one of these days getting trapped with the ball, and should be on the right. Thought we were really ineffective overlapping from the outside though...
Deandre Yedlin is absolute ********ing garbage. That anyone would complain about Dest while Yedlin is on the other side shitting himself all over the field is absolutely baffling.
I think the FB performance and selection was absolutely meant to be an aggressive, vertical move by GB to help the attack and that was knowingly coming with risk. I thought each FB had moments in attack but largely they were ineffective and Yedlin was looking rusty. Dest at least had one of our SOG and created a chance or two. As per usual, pregame thread was flooded with doom and gloom about Ream, but also unsurprisingly Ream continues to be solid like most of his recent appearances. I thought Robinson was actually quite shaky at times which is a surprise given how consistent he was again the same or better level at the Gold Cup. These WCQ games do up the intensity away from home. I’ll probably watch this one a second time if possible and revise as needed.
Center backs played well enough, not that El Salvador was particularly threatening. But Dest dribbled into traffic time and again and Yedlin did nothing to support the attack. Turner's distribution was horrid. Not only did he give up a free corner tripping over the ball once, but the everything long style his lack of skill on the ball requires meant we never were able to build from the back and virtually every time we won the ball in the back it turned into a 50/50 ball hoofed up field.
