I've been using the Twitter hashtag #1stLastTampaDerby for this matchup. It's sort of sad that Rowdies fans will essentially be subsidizing their opponents' inept front office by supporting their own team. That said, if VSI win, it'll be pretty shameful for the Rowdies and NASL. It's the one potential loss they could suffer all season that wouldn't bring me even a modicum of joy.

Used to be a bidding process, and you used to be able to "sell" your home game if you wanted to make some jack. Now if both teams submit an intention to host (and I think at a certain point there is money involved), they determine home field by coin flip.
How did Carolina get the chance to host the Galaxy AGAIN?! If they can beat Carolina Dynamo, I think they'll be able to pack the house. I was really hoping that MN United would win the coin toss, but I think the away trip seals it, if drawing KC and not Chicago didn't. The team are away both weekends after the second round (if they can beat the Menace), so a Tuesday away game is really going to wear on the guys.
Well here is an article on how the draw went down. http://www.chicago-fire.com/news/2013/05/how-third-round-lamar-hunt-us-open-cup-draw-was-done
"The theorist in me pictured some U.S. Soccer Federation bureaucrats sitting in a smoke-filled room figuring out who they wanted to play each other in a similar fashion to the way Harry Truman was chosen as Franklin D. Roosevelt's Vice President in 1944." Way to skew old, there. Today's soccer demographic can't possibly relate to that reference.
Most of today's soccer demographic couldn't tell you who the current vice president is without wikipedia, let alone seventy years ago.
So far Minnesota is down 0 - 1 almost over Menace with the upset. Ft Lauderdale and Laredo heat 1 - 1 almost over regular time Atlanta won 3 - 2 over Georgia Carolina won 3 - 1 over Dynamo San Antonio up 1 - 0 over Tucson at the half.
So 4 of 6 NASL teams move on to play MLS teams next, 3 to host. Not bad. Surprised with Minn U being ousted though, and happy the Strikers won as they're basically out of the Spring season race. Maybe they can pull a TFC, bad in league play but surprising in tournaments! Looking forward to the Railhawks vs Galaxy, hope they beat LA again this year in front of a full house at Wakemed!
Carolina will probably set the club's new attendance record for the stadium. With the recent expansion, capacity is now 10,000. With the excitement around the team this year and the big storyline of the rematch with the MLS champs - this game is sure to sellout. Is Tampa planning any temporary seating to increase their seating for the Seattle match?
The Strikers did not deserve to win that game. Laredo outplayed the Strikers for much of the game and even when they were down a man. Both offenses couldn't amount any real attack and it was ugly soccer. You take the pk win, but it was something you don't feel confident about.
We only drew 3,086 last season for our match against the Rapids. The stadium seats about 7,000 give or take. No real need for temporary seating.
I think Seattle are a much more marketable team to be playing, but I think your observations are probably correct. They may be more marketable, but they're not gonna help you pack a stadium like Thierry Henry or the Galaxy might.
The Rowdies office has proven to be incapable of selling 7,000 tickets for any opponent. It isn't about a lack of a marketable opponent, it has to ticket selling competence, or lack there of. They are running a deal where you buy a ticket for Saturday's match against Minnesota and get one half price for Seattle. Not a bad deal, but I expect they will have 3,200 on Tuesday night.
Its good for the Railhawks that LA lost they're leading scorer in Magee for the average Rogers, seeing online that a lot of Galaxy fans are pissed as well. Has anyone heard about how ticket sales are for the game? Sellout I hope.
When is the last time he played a match? And how many times has he trained with LA? Magen's not even supposed to train until Monday.
No chance the Rowdies come even close to selling out. But I don't think its so much the fault of the sales team as it is the fault of ownership and front office management. The have three ticket sales reps. They do not have one person responsible for just group sales, that I know of. They are selling more tickets this year, so far. There is still a lot of potential down the road this season, but if the ownership won't give them all the tools they need, and more hands on deck, we should just stop expecting better.
