I think after last year there was no way they were'nt gonna take it serious, specially in their home. Good game until Gorkie's penalty give away. Not sure what happened with Ayoze and Roversio, starting defenders for the Cosmos. It just proves that if an NASL team wants to beat a MLS team they better have their entire A team. I heard somewhere that it was a record attendance for a Open Cup game at RB arena. Credit to The Five Points (Cosmos Suppoters groups)about 500 made it to the game and where heard throughout the entire game. not bad for a Wednesday night.... Step in the right direction.
Not sure of it was last year or change in coach and philosophy, or both....RB has tried so little in the past it is just good to see. Makes it feel more legit.

Portland Timbers The exact dates could change and there is talk of some more forfeits. Of the NASL teams: Carolina, Jacksonville, Minnesota United, and Rayo OKC would host if they advance out of the 3rd round. The other five teams would go to an MLS opponent.
Maybe forfeit isn't the right word but that's what the USSF seems to call it. Apparently The Villages used an ineligible player against Charleston and that result might be changed. The guy who runs TheCup.us website says he has heard of another situation.
http://www.postandcourier.com/20160...ove-on-in-us-open-cup-after-villages-forfeit- That is the 2nd overturned result, one in each round, for the same offense; using a player that had previously played for a different team in the amateur qualifying tournament.
Sounds ridiculous, but is it actually more common than you'd expect? Bummer for the The Villages as that was a pretty fun story.
It has not happened as much in the past. It is the qualifying tournament last fall that seems to be tripping teams up. The rules say those games cap-tie you but some of the players and teams don't seem to understand that. A player switches teams in the off-season and they think they are good to go. In the first round situation, the coach of Ventura County asked the players if any of them had already played in the Open Cup. Two guys said they had so they weren't listed on the roster. The one who did play apparently didn't realize that the qualifying tournament counted. The other thing is the roster approval. Teams submit a roster and the USSF approves it so they think all of the players are OK. But all the USSF is saying is that we have your list of players and only these guys can play for you. They are not checking to see if those players have played before. The teams are supposed to be doing that. I'd guess The Villages situation is similar.
In that case, to me it sounds like USSF is the one screwing up, not the teams. In my opinion, the qualifying tournament should not restrict a players eligibility when there is an offseason in between that tournament and the actual US Open Cup. Also if they are calling it "roster approval" instead of submission, then they should be running those checks before the teams play, and not approving the rosters unless they fully comply with the US Open Cup rules.
In defense of the USSF, the qualifying tournament was supposed to run into the spring. The original plan was to have the opening rounds in October and November (which did happen) but then have the third and fourth (and potential fifth) rounds of the tournament in February and March of 2016. Those rounds got cancelled party due to the relatively low number of teams that applied to be in the tournament and partly because of the disqualification of the MLS2 USL teams. They wound up letting a lot more amateur teams into the tournament. The rules for the qualifying tournament were written with the longer tournament in mind. It specifically says in the rules: As far as the roster approval, I don't see anywhere in the rules where it says the USSF is going to determine if players on the submitted rosters are eligible to play for a specific team. Some teams apparently understood it that way but I don't know the exact language that was used.
