If there was a World Cup of American football, who would be on the US team (assuming we sent our best players)?? I'm tired as ************ so I"m not gonna do the whole team, but here's the offensive backfield: QB-Peyton Manning TB-Marshall Faulk FB-Mike Alstott WR-Randy Moss WR-Tim Brown Anyone else?? How about national teams for other countries? Alex
What? Who would they play? NFL is only played here..unless you made a foreign team of field goal kickers.
Christian Okoye is the Nigerian national team. Darren Bennet is Australia. My guess is, both teams would get creamed if the US fielded 11 players.
All I know is if this were to ever happen I'd have: QB Donovan Mcnabb RB Marhsall Faulk (Ricky Williams) WR Wayne Chrebet WR Terell Owens WR Tim Brown TE Shannon Sharpe On defense I'd have CHarles Woodsen out there for sure, probablky Uchlecker or whatever the hell is name is, Sam Madison from the Dolphins, Chris Claiborne...ny kicker would be Jason Elam. Brett Farve and Peyton Manning - Interception kings. How long has it been since Farve won anything? Mcnabb is younger, more mobile and he will get his.
Ummmm, wouldn't an American Football world cup be a bit pointless, and one-sided ?. The USA would rack up phone number scores against Germany, Japan or whoever.
Not really. Many Brits and other FOREIGNERS go on and on about the RUGBY and Australian rules football players. By their descriptions, not a single NFL player can tackle Lomu, they have "FAR" greater "ATHLETIC" talent, speed, strength, teamwork, individual skills, and whatnot. So why not have a go at our NFL players
I can't see how anyone could name the members of the other teams. No one else cares enough about the game to even be able to field a team. Sure, you could get a few people who can block, tackle, catch and run, but who'd throw the ball? Maybe a team made up of the best NFL Europe players could play. They might even get a respectable result (stay within 28) in a one-off against the NFL's best, but I doubt it.
Perhaps because in the grand scheme of world sports, American Football is more or less irrelevant? That would be like asking basketball players to prove themselves in a team handball game, or a tae kwo do champion go up against a Thai kick boxing champion. Interesting, maybe, but the outcome is absolutely meaningless.
You obviously haven't seen McNabb play this year. He couldn't complete a 5 yard pass if his life depended on it.
did you see Monday's win over Washington. Kinda makes this statement look foolish in hindsight. good ol' hindsight.
Alstott's overrated too. QB: Tom Brady (believe it!) RB: Marshall Faulk RB: Ricky Williams WR: Isaac Bruce WR: Marvin Harrison 3rd WR: Rod Smith TE: Shannon Sharpe OL: open to debate, I guess. I'd include Tony Boselli, Olin Kreutz, Orlando Brown, Bryant McKinnie... K: Jason Elam DL: hmm. Warren Sapp? Courtney Brown? Hugh Douglas? Jason Taylor? LB: Ray Lewis LB: Brian Urlacher LB: LaVarr Arrington CB: Charles Woodson CB: Aeneas Williams FS: Mike Brown FS: Rod Woodson
QB - Michael Vick (believe dat!) TE - Tony Gonzalez (Sharpe out) WR - Terrell Owens (Bruce??? out) WR - David Boston (Smith out) Defense is nice, best linebacker in the league ... Brian Urlacher. Def better than MurdeRay Lewis.
Not selecting Gonzalez was an oversight on my part. Vick, yeah, he's gonna be The Man someday, but right now it's TB.
Actually they play American football in most European countries, it's a club sport over there, nowhere near NFL (or even NFL Europe) level obviously. They even have a European Cup and everything, I assume the European players who ride the bench behind NFL scrubs in NFL Europe are the elite from the European club teams. American football is also big in Mexico and Japan. A more interesting matchup might be USA vs the World, played under Canadian rules. Alex
I wouldn't say "big". It's somewhere behind baseball, soccer, sumo, marathons, horse racing, golf, tennis and rugby, about the same as basketball and volleyball. Yeah, it's viable but not exactly big. The collegiate championship gets press, while the semi-pro corporate championship gets on TV, as does the game between the corporate and collegiate champions.
Curtis Martin is better than Ricky Williams, and should be the 2nd back behind Faulk. As for the offensive line, Boselli, Fabini and Mawae have to be there, but the guards are a toss up. Jevon Kearse and John Abraham as the DE's. Also Shannon Sharpe isn't even the 3rd or 4th best TE in the league anymore. Gonzalez, Bubba Franks are 2 that are both better. Tom Brady is the QB with McNabb and Favre backing up (McNabb for a scrambling QB option and Favre for experience and leadership). JMac
Seriously though, Detroit Lions can beat pretty much any national team except the US. Hell, an XFL team could as well.
