Hey I was wondering if anyone out there could hook me up with a link to the roster, which included like each players' club. Bye Thanx in advance!
From fifaworldcup.com. Numerically: [ 1] MEOLA Tony (GK) [ 2] TRITTSCHUH Steve [ 3] DOYLE John [ 4] BANKS Jimmy [ 5] WINDISCHMANN Michael [ 6] HARKES John [ 7] RAMOS Tab [ 8] BLISS Brian [ 9] SULLIVAN Christopher [10] VERMES Peter [11] WYNALDA Eric [12] KRUMPE Paul [13] EICHMANN Eric [14] STOLLMEYER John [15] ARMSTRONG Desmond [16] MURRAY Bruce [17] BALBOA Marcelo [18] KELLER Kasey (GK) [19] HENDERSON Chris [20] CALIGIURI Paul [21] COVONE Neil [22] VANOLE David (GK)
For the most part, their "team" was the US team. I don't believe the '90 team had too many full time professionals.
Most of the guys were either in or right out of college.....though some of the guys got deals right after.....Caliguri, Harkes, Tab, etc.
Well, trolling the web for a while I've come up with this so far, but it hasn't been easy! It's true that most of these guys played full time for the nats. but at the time, they also played on the "off season" for the following clubs, universities. [ 1] MEOLA Tony (GK)--University of Virginia [ 2] TRITTSCHUH Steve--Tampa Bay Rowdies (ASL) [ 3] DOYLE John [ 4] BANKS Jimmy [ 5] WINDISCHMANN Michael--Brooklyn Italians? [ 6] HARKES John--Albany (ASL) [ 7] RAMOS Tab--Miami (ASL) [ 8] BLISS Brian--Boston Bolts (ASL) [ 9] SULLIVAN Christopher [10] VERMES Peter--Volendam (Netherlands) [11] WYNALDA Eric--San Francisco Bay Blackhawks [12] KRUMPE Paul [13] EICHMANN Eric [14] STOLLMEYER John [15] ARMSTRONG Desmond [16] MURRAY Bruce [17] BALBOA Marcelo--San Francisco Bay Blackhawks [18] KELLER Kasey (GK)--Portland Timbers (WSL) [19] HENDERSON Chris--UCLA [20] CALIGIURI Paul--SV Meppen (Germany) [21] COVONE Neil--Wake Forest [22] VANOLE David (GK)
a few more [ 3] DOYLE John--University of San Francisco [ 4] BANKS Jimmy--Milwaukee Wave MISL [13] EICHMANN, Eric--Fort Lauderdale Strikers APSL [15] ARMSTRONG, Desmond--Unaffiliated? Had played with Baltimore Blast MISL (indoor league) before breaking leg in 1989, according to ussoccerplayers.com [16] MURRAY, Bruce--Washington Stars APSL good history at www.yanksformillwall.com/bruce_murray.html
Here's the skinny on the 1990 WC team, after much reading and web trolling. The core of that team was the 1988 Olympic team. In mid 1989, when the US beat Trinidad to qualify, the USSF signed all the players then on the team to full-time contracts. Only Vermes and Sullivan (playing in Europe) and the collegians didn't sign. We had the youngest team at Italia 90. Clearly, we've come a long way since then!!! Here's the final roster, with one correction: Kasey was still at U of Portland. Given what I said above, this represents mostly the players most recent afflication before signing with US Soccer.
