A multi-year deal. Is this another example of Freddy influencing the business economics of MLS? His rookie card is mentioned prominently in the news release.
Hm, I wonder if collecting MLS Cards will be cheaper than collecting MLS bobbleheads. It has to be, right?
A pack of cards will certainly be cheaper than a bobblehead. But you'll need to buy multiple packs for a chance at maybe getting the whole set, so in the end it may cost you the same.       That won't likely deter me from trying to complete the set, of course. -G
Why, those sneaky bastards. The Freddy Adu card will probably be in 1 of every 10 packs. Meanwhile, Chris Albright will be included in every single pack. I wish I could think of a counterargument...sadly, I cannot.
After buying a few packs back when they last sold them, I have computed that there is was an average of 1.2 Luis Hernandez cards in each pack. Cobi Jones was close to 1 as well.
I feel my soccer geeknees being exposed.... Hello every one, my name is Chazsoccer and I've been collecting soccer cards since WCUSA94. [Group Response] Hello Chazsoccer [/Group Response] One of my Sam's Army buddies, Fred Kfory has a website for people like us Penalty Spot Soccer Cards. http://www.nhsoccer.com/cards/
My two MLS bobbleheads I got for free. Course, they cost me a seasonticket to the Burn in 2003, so really, the cost was immeasurable. How many 14 year olds can buy a pack of cards with a 14 year old pro in them? And what exactly is a jersey card?
They aren't being released until June, gives them plenty of time to cut up Adu's Jersey into little polygons and paste onto cards to include in the packs. For those wondering what a jersey card is.....here is an example..a lingerie card from Ms. Stacy keibler..I'm sure it will be the same idea just with a jersey instead of lingerie...I used her for an example..well because she is hot http://www.wrestlingtradingcards.com/images/wwe_absolute_divas_material_stacy_top.jpg
Actually, there were sets in 1997, 1999 and 2000. The 2000 set had "game worn uniforms" (note: not the "event" worn uniforms they have in football cards, which amount to guys sitting around the "uniform event" for ten minutes). There were even some "autographed game worn jersey cards". These can bring as much as $150 and up on eBay today. Sadly, Upper Deck actually did up a 2001 set. I've seen the dummies. Beautiful. They were laid out and ready to print but their pre-orders from dealers were weak and they cancelled them at the last minute. Tragic. For those of you who want to get all "Freddied" there are already two Adu cards available today: This one was in a magazine called "Rookie Review". It was in a perforated page containing nine cards. I'm guessing you can still get the issue. Otherwise, pay a dealer $10 - 15. The other is from the UK, issued as part of a set by Soccer Pax: Both these cards are available as singles, but if you wanna be a Freddy collector, or believe the guy will someday be as big as Jordan, now's your chance.
The autographed ones from 2000 were nice, and you can still get them fairly cheap. I have a full set of the commons, but am not obsessed enough to chase all the others. I did that for WC94 though. Well worth it.
Oh Christ! Just what I need. I have all the WC '94 cards, a whole bunch of Bundesliga and EPL cards, along with more than enough MLS cards from 1997 and 1999. Not to mention all MLS bobbleheads I can get my hands on (12 to be exact). Now, I have to buy these. My wife's going to kill me.
Are these cards mainly sold in sports memorbilia stores, or are they sold in sporting goods stores as well?
Trade 'em Just bring your extras to the games and we can all trade them for what we need. Like what you used to do when you were a kid. Obviously none of us have grown up too much to do that, or we wouldn't be so freakin' excited about collecting them in the first place.
Yeah now would be a good time get the Freddy Adu rookie card. Course its one year too late. Imagine how much the Alecko Eskandarain rookie card would have gone for.
Cards yes. Bobbleheads no. Screw bobbleheads. How that junk ever became popular with sports fans is beyond me. The cards are great. Soccer outlets should sell them as a complete set.
Those were actually pretty cute, although the concept sounds stupid. You still see the sets on sale from time to time.
