Just wanted to let y'all know that Peter Wilt contacted me and is handling this from the Chicago end. He feels badly that the flag was stolen, and said that he's sure it was a Fire fan (because unfortunately they(Fire) have more than their fair share of these incidents), but he isn't certain that "dealsgonebad" was the culprit. Peter knows this character and will be taliking to him about the flag and his original bragging (Peter has been reading the BigSoccer posts).

He asks that WE DO NOT TRY TO GET THE FLAG BACK ON SUNDAY ON OUR OWN! Fire security and staff will be looking for it, and if we Crew fans spot it, we are to notify Fire staff/security or call him (I have his cell phone number) and they will get it for us. I really don't want any fans to get into trouble over this, so just take your energy and use it to support our boyz on Sunday afternoon!!! I was very upset about the UD flag at first, but now I am alright with getting a new one and moving-on. Many of the Fire fans are OK people. Let's keep relations good between us. Whoever stole the flag can feel really stupid for looking like a wussie for stealing from a family area.

I really appreciate Peter's involvement, when I know he has many more important things to attend to.
I really appreciate the Crew- and even Fire fans- that were angry that someone had sunk this low.
AND I really appreciate the fans and Crew staff who helped me look for our flag after the game, when they could have been off celebrating the Crew's great win!

    Most important thing now...
WIN CUPS! WIN CUPS! WIN CUPS!

Peter has been involved in soccer for years. He's real people, and will do exactly as he says he'll do.

That aside, I'm also sure that the last thing he wants is some Crew fans doing an impromptu search of the stadium.

As I've been saying ever since dgb started suddenly denying any knowledge, his mention of the flag, be it empty bragging over someone else's deed, or something he was more closely involved with, predates YOUR complaint.

In other words, by shooting his mouth off, he proved that he knew something about it.

He'd better at least spill whatever he DOES know, or else never set foot in CCS again.

    That's no threat. That's simply a fact.

I agree. DGB does know something about the flag. He may not have been there, but someone he knows was there.

And please don't search the stadium. As Neil said on Saturday, we know who the best fans in MLS are. And those fans don't need to start any ruckuses.

As I understand through word of mouth, there's been Fire fans banned from all sorts or stadiums. CCS can just continue adding names and faces to their list. And no, Jim "moneymoneymoney" Smith won't look too kindly on that.

Good to hear. Everything about Peter Wilt is class.

Just a thought - don't you think posting this in a public forum decreases the likelihood that your flag will make a public appearance this weekend? Just a thought.

I have a feeling that the person or person's who took the flags ego will make them want to show off their trophy.

Long post beware. I don't know how to say this right and not sound like what happened was all right, so here is my feable attempt:

Sounds kind of highschoolish to me more so than theft. I remember in highschool some of my friends took the mascot's head after a football game at their place. Stuff like that always happened with our biggest rival, they took our stuff when they were at our place too. However, they sent it back the after a few days. They would have given it back in a game if we played them more than once, but they didn't.

Well anyways if this person is a fan, and I'm guessing anyone who drove all the way to Columbus from Sh!tcago is one, they will most likely bring it to the game show it off a little and then give it back or give it to a security guard to give back to LUD. In a way I think it's good for the fans to have idiots like that out there. It makes fan rivalries a little better, maybe a little funner even. We will always remember that time LUD's flag got taken by a Fire fan and that increases the animosity we have towards the Fire and their fans. Of course the best answer we can give to the Fire fans is "you took our flag, we took your playoffs." if the Crew get ahead the people going should chant that until the game is over. As bad as this flag taking is, consider the way European fans deal with disappointment. Hell, LUD and her family might have wound up dead in a riot in Europe.

    My Shap,

I don't think they will give it back. This isn't high school.

Unfortunately Chicago brought in the Polish fans who think this is 1973 and that stealing scarves, flags and anything else from fans, even normal scarfers is fair game and makes them tough.

The reality is it's out dated. So is their style of dress.

Now all new Chicago fans are coming through and want to act hard so they steal ************.

If real trouble ever came their way they would be found out.

Nevermind what people tell you. I guarantee and a quick thumping and 3 missing teeth later, the kids will realize that they aren't so tough.

Myshap, not a bad post at all. You're right that it is highschoolish. I wouldn't have bothered to say anything if it was my car flag or scarf that they took. (notice that I've kept the missing Mais banner out of it). The flag and pole were expensive and had autographs that my daughter collected from our players after she sang the Anthem. Taking a piece of a mascot is tradition and it's also not a fan's personal item. I hate to see the hooligans switch to fan's possesions, whether it's mine or not. You hit the nail on the head, though, "you took our flag, we took your playoffs." That will be my favorite cheer on Sunday! (I wonder if I have time to make it into a banner???)

Here's something you won't hear from me too often...
EGGY's post speaks the truth. I couldn't have explained it better myself (except I wouldn't post the part about the teeth) ;)

But the teeth was the best part!

Don't let Peter get on you, myshap. There's some history here that you'd have to have been through to completely understand. Not your fault.

    Otherwise, what Eggy said.

Yeah, what Eggy and Bill said.

High Schoolers (it seems) will take things for fun, but eventually get found out and give them.

If a Polish hooligan takes something, you'll be lucky to get it back. You'll be luckier to get it back in one piece with no threats.

My point about European hooliganism was sure right.

Wish I could go, but I work on Sundays. I'm hoping to hear you chanting that over the TV. This is turning out to be a good year DC and Sh!tcago both could be out of the playoffs. We must let them know and never forget about it.

Wow... It just now hit me that this has every possibility of becoming true. Right now I'm still stunned --- Both DC and Sh!tcago out of the playoffs?!? Right now, I'm trying to figure out what God we're supposed to pray to for that to be fulfilled.

P.S. Being mediocre is awsome. Having a near 0.500 season can win division titles!!!

You need to pray to the god that provides Dallas a tie and us a win. With that scenario, both would be out.

I feel horribly guilty for wishing for this scenario (I must be Catholic or Jewish but not know it), but these are the two teams that can jinx us psychologically. I want them out of the way. The rest,The Crew know they can beat both home and away. Both have had their share of hardware. I will be saying my prayers.

Real conversation between UDjr and myself last week while watching DC match...
UDjr, "They have three stars on their jerseys, I guess for each Cup title they won."
Me, "OR, one for each playoff season they will sit out!" momentary silence
    Both: <JOYUS LAUGHTER> :D

Kudos to Greg for getting us here!

    he's right.

check this out from MLSnet.com's preview of tonight.

D.C.'s destiny is not in its own hands as the club needs a loss by the MetroStars AND a loss by either Kansas City (at Colorado) or Chicago (home vs. Columbus) … Any result other than a win by Ray Hudson's men would result in mathematical elimination

If DC wins tonight, they'll be cheering for us in naperville. :)

I may be wrong, but I think our options (to hell with everybody else) boil down to this:

    1) Lose to the Fire - we go on the road to either San Jose or Los Angeles.

    2) Beat the Fire - we play at home against the last finisher - DC, Metros or NE.

Let's settle our own affairs first.

    as the childhood saying goes:

"first is the worst. second is the best"

even though i'd hate to play NE, i think we can take on either of the other teams in columbus.

and if mathis dares to play, he can't because the curse lives!
