Dan R... anyone? I think a big part of our success this season will depend on us signing him.

I can tell you that Nick S. was at the Galaxy/Montagua game, and appeared to have been talking with Guevara and his people after the game.

With Andy Williams definitely to Chicago now, that would mean that there are only really two MLS teams potentially in the market for an A-mid: NE and you guys.

Given that MLS (at least as of a few days ago) was talking with Balakov, I'd think that may be a fall-back in case Guevara talks continue to move slowly or stall. I can't imagine that the Andy Moller rumor is anything more than just that--especially for your team. Can't see Bradley pursuing a guy who wouldn't be available until mid-summer.

it would be very much like the metrostars if they signed a player knowing full well he wouldn't put on the metro kit til midsummer....hmmm....and a german too?!?! no way......well, atleast this time we wouldn't have to get rid of 3/4 of the team preparing for him to show midsummer, & then not have him show til the following year so he could take vacations in southern france :)

He looked to be a very solid midfielder, with very good ball skills. He didn't have much to work with up front.

I've preached patience on previous threads, but I'm starting to get antsy. I hope things work out with Guevara as he just seems like the perfect player to run the offense.

Guevara, Mathis and Moreno are all clever offensive players, and I'd expect to see some guys who don't normally score goals get a couple this year. Maybe they'll make Zadie or Richie Williams an All Star and we can deal one to some unsuspecting team for a real winger......

...although you have to wonder how often Big Soccer is the news source - there are no quotes in this article....

    The Need for Guevara

My first time on here guys...good to talk Metrostars football( sorry but I travel a lot a find myself calling it football because of all the Brits I meet). Guevara would be a perfect fit. He scored the other day in his league match and twice vs the Galaxy...HE's a mid-fielder...what a bonus if we could get him. The talent pool in Central America is just waiting to be tapped into fully. These guys are skilled. I hope Nick and MLS does what they need to get him. Dallas missed out on Tyson Nunez. We have to sign this guy!!!

Now, if we sign Gueverra (which is a good move), who are the wide mids.?We have two discovery options left? Doyle? Etcheverry? or one of the kids we drated like LeBlanc.

If the season, beagan today, we'd have to play Mathis or Moreno at attacking mid with the other playing up front with Magee. I imagine Clark & LeBlanc (based on what we get online, he's having a good spring; haven't actually seen him play of course) would be left & right wide with Little Richard at DM.

Maybe a 4-4-2 with Jolley, Pope, Glowienka & Ziadie in the back in front of Howard.

    What do you think?

99% of us haven't seen these guys play!

9 more days 'til the MLS start &
16 more 'til the Metro kick off.

Wouldn't it be terrific if we could watch these guys in exhibition matches and try to see for ourselves who looks good? This has been a hell of an off-season.

I hope things are more solidifed by April 12.

It's kind of reminding me of the response of a youth coach who when asked what criteria he uses for evaluating players and says, I'm just hoping I can get 11 players to come down!!

DiGi lottery is tomorrow. That could be the other piece.

Corky's "story" has added nothing. Still no solid info on whether Guevara's signing is imminent.

Is the DiGi lottery tomorrow? That would be a good pick-up if he's healthy. It;s us Dc & NE interested, correct?

Ok, first of all if the season started today Mathis would not be available or Guevera. As someone else noted, the team has to many new players unknown to us to make a fair judgement on their best position and ability. There will be an opportunity to see them in an exhibition game on April 6 th 2 pm at Giants stadium against Rochester if you are a MetroMember.

Metros will be playing a 3-5-2 system according to Eddie Pope.

Well, I was just throwing it out theoretically.

It'll be intersting to see who the 3rd defender is other than Jolley & pope.

I think it might be Regan. Maybe with Ziadie on a wing?

Don't worry, JoeW will be back later to answer all your Metro-related lineup and tactics questions.

In addition to Digi, don't forget Phil Sayler. He's been training with the Dallas Burn down in Chile and supposedly playing very well. But because Dallas' roster is so deep there's a good chance he won't be able to make the team. It's possible we could grab him in some waiver/lottery draft.

Actually, if the season began today, you'd probably still need to play Mathis or Moreno at A-mid (which are not bad options--though Mathis probably is a ways from match-fit). That's b/c Guevara needs a work permit. Typically that is 4-6 weeks from the time of application. I don't know if the war situation has lengthened this process--it has resulted in a longer process for green cards and citizenship.

Who will be our first offensive and defensive subs, JoeW? Will Metro ever play with a lone striker? Is Magee the real deal? How about the new equipment man, is he above average? And is there anything you can do to expedite Amado's visa?

I'm more worried about today, I'm only thinking of opening day.
The whole Metro crew and Mathis have been saying that he'll be match fit on opening day, though he might not play a full 90. Check out an audio interview with Cleetus here:
