Honestly, are you concerned about the Poland friendly? Poland surprised me in the 02 WC.

I understand that Ireland's participation in this "Unity Cup" tournament is in grave doubt. The organisers want to add a fourth team and obviously Ireland won't be able to fit in a third game due to the Romania and Holland games. Also the Nigerians intend using it as an opportunity to blood home based amateur players which is not the quality of opposition the FAI expected to be facing. Don't be surprised to hear soon that Ireland are pulling out of this farce.

The matches are scheduled for the Valley and Charlton has as recently as yesterday included Ireland in the line-up of teams.

Cyprus should represent no threat for the mighty Irish team :)

Portugal friendly is drawing near (Feb 9th), thoughts?

Should be an interesting tie, definitely looking forward to it. Squad is fortunately in good shape, other than Stephen Carr (who'll miss Israel game) no Irish regular springs to mind as sidelined. Would be great to see Morrison get on the scoresheet against a top side like Portugal, for his confidence against what is sure be a tough tie in Tel Aviv. We'll definitely want a good showing to prepare for it.

    Prediction: Irish win or draw.

It will undoubtedly be a tough game against Portugal, whoever they decide to field. However Brian has picked a very strong squad for a friendly, which includes Roy! I would have liked to see Delap in for Barrett as I don’t think he’s performed all that well for Coventry this season where as Delap has been consistent for Southampton.

Goals for Clinton & young Stephen Elliott would be nice as you say to boost confidence. I fancy Duffer to score next Wednesday night, he’s long overdue an international goal & is in scintillating form for Chelsea. Also looking forward to seeing McGeady given a run out.

Tel Aviv on 26 March will be a tough match but I firmly believe that we have the strength & quality in our squad to get an away win & I’ll be there against Portugal & in Tel Aviv cheering on the Boys in Green.

Seems Carr has made a good recovery and is included in the friendly squad, despite previously being considered out of the Israel game March 26th.

Through injury and being played out of position on the right wing Barrett hasnt played that much for Coventry this season. It seems tho that Kerr rates him very highly, as Wenger did. He has also always done well for us when picked. I do find it strange that Mick Doyle can play every week for Coventry, apparantly playing well, and not get in.

    Hello all,
started a thread on the ISR boards about the upcoming match between us.

    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=184282

Please feel free to visit and post your thoughts. I think we are the 2 best teams in our group, and how good and pleasant it would be to see us both in Germany!!

I think after Israel leaves Dublin, Ireland will prepare and tear apart Faroe Islands then take a bite out of Cyprus. My question to all of you true Ireland fans is which game would you be most concerned about, the upcoming Israel Swiss or French game?

Not taking away from Israel but it's the Swiss, French and Cyprus (away) games I would be most worried about losing points in. The Swiss did it on a truly awful winters night in Dublin which was the catalyst of the last managers resignation. It should be sweet revenge in Oct but they have looked the sharpest team in the group going forward from what I have seen. The French team cannot be written off, they have too many top quality players but I think we can at least take a point. We are notorious for tripping up at away games, that is why I was reasonably content with a draw in Tel Aviv. Cyprus have a new coach and nothing to lose - we do have a good track record against them but this is the sort of occasion which could undo the hard work.

In saying that Israel could come to Dublin and throw the whole group even wider open.
