On Saturday, I was in a meeting concerning the 2da Copa Ciudad de Bayamón de Fútbol. The pesidente from the Federation of Football of Puerto Rico, Eric Labrador, was present also. He mentioned about the games of 22 (El Salvador U-23), and 24 and 26 (Nicaragua A) of February and a possible match on 29 in Puerto Rico (possibly against Aruba, U.S. Virgin Islands or BVI). Labrador referred to early in summer (maybe in June), Nicaragua comes to Puerto Rico for two more friendlies. Someone on Facebook wrote that the Football Federation of Nicaragua said that the friendly matches is in Puerto Rico on June 4th & 6th. There is no confirmation of these dates, but this link (Spanish) mentions of "possible" matches in June. Feb 22 - El Salvador (U-23) vs Puerto Rico Feb 24 - Nicaragua vs Puerto Rico Feb 24 - Nicaragua vs Puerto Rico *Not confirmed Feb 29 - Possible game against a Caribbean team Jun 4 Puerto Rico vs Nicaragua Jun 6 Puerto Rico vs Nicaragua
A game in march against antigua would be good for yall...so puerto rico soccer assoc spending big $ now?
how do friendlies get planned...dates, administrative, traveling costs, etc...like who pays for what? how does it work?
FIFA Dates are established by FIFA.. so they give you dates for you to plan friendlies on.. Then its the Federation's President/Administration's job to talk to other countries federations to set-up friendlies on these dates. The more popular the team is, the more it will cost to bring them over to play friendlies. Money comes from the Federation... All the flights, hotel.. your federation is suppose to pay for that, but there have been instances where a highly successful player playing for a small nation (futebol/fiscal wise) pays for it all. thats the general idea atleast imo.
FIFA has listed the Jamaica - Cuba matches as full A matches. But la Prensa Cubana is speaking about a Cuban sub23 team, which is preparing for the Olympic Qualifiers, to take this friendlies as a preparation: http://www.cubadebate.cu/noticias/2...ara-amistosos-de-futbol-en-jamaica-y-bolivia/
Unless Cuba use the U-23 players to represent the "A" squad. Puerto Rico will play against El Salvador U-23, and Nicaragua "A" squad, but on the FIFA website they registered only the games against Nicaragua.
Bolivian Gen secr said that Cuba will play with 60 % Olympic team against them in the friendly on Feb 29, but the rest will be older players. If they field same team against the Jamaicans it should be a "A" match. http://www.rpp.com.pe/2012-01-27-bo...brero-en-partido-amistoso-noticia_445084.html
http://www.cubadebate.cu/noticias/2...para-partidos-amistosos-en-jamaica-y-bolivia/ Here you can check the full squad for the two games against Jamaica and the game against Bolivia. There is no player born before January 1989. So it's clear that the Cuban objective is to prepare for 2012 Olympic Qualifiers in late March.
http://www.antiguaobserver.com/?p=71534 ST JOHN’S, Antigua – A 31-member senior national football training squad has been named ahead of Antigua & Barbuda’s International Friendly against Trinidad and Tobago’s Soca Warriors slated for February 29 at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds. The training squad includes five England-based players – Justin Cochrane, Marvin McCoy, Keiran Murtagh, Ashton Blackwood who is formerly of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs, and Dexter Blackstock of Nottingham Forest. The locally-based line-up comprises goalkeepers Molvin James, Keita DeCastro, Olson Forde and Tahari Lewis, defenders George “Sowa” Dublin, Luke Blakely, Brian Edwards, Akeem “Leppy” Thomas, Karanjah Mack, Troy Dublin, Gavin Lewis and Dave Carr. Midfielders Eugene Kirwan, Quinton Griffith, Lawson “Boy Blue” Robinson, Tamarley “Ziggy” Thomas, Ken Pennyfeather, Kemoi Alexander, Rolston “Lexi” Phoenix and Jamie “Taliban” Thomas are also included, while strikers Ranjae Christian, Peter “Big Pete” Byers, Stephan Smith, Kerry “Arab” Skepple, Randolph “Etty” Burton, Gason “Bubbler” Gregory and Lloyd Jeremy complete the line-up. Antigua & Barbuda is slated to jumpstart their preparations for the semi-final round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup with the finals slated for Brazil. Benna Boys will take on the USA on June 8 in their Group A opening fixture before tackling Jamaica and Guatemala later that month. Following their friendly encounter on February 29, the senior national players will turn their attention to representing the country’s lone professional outfit, Antigua Barracuda FC, in the 2012 United Soccer Leagues (USL) season as they continue preparations for June’s semi-final opener. The Trinidad contest is slated to begin at 7 pm and carries an entrance fee of $20 per adult and $10 per school child. Children 10 years old and under and accompanied by an adult will be allowed to enter for free.
It will be interesting to see if Blackstock actually accepts the call up this time. I believe Anton Blackwood has already played for Antigua at underage level.
