Too many average performances and poor first touches and Ajax lose to Heerenveen for the first time since 2009. The club just cannot stop conceding cheap goals. Ajax came within a millimeter of getting the tying goal in the dying minutes of the match when there was a scramble in the goal mouth. A lengthy VAR look could not conclusively demonstrate that the ball was over the line. With the loss, third place will be a difficult reach for Ajax as they are now nine points behind FC Twente. Hard to single out any Ajax player though Brobbey and Sosa were perhaps the only players who were above mediocre. This season of horrors continues. Player Ratings: Ramaj (5) - not a very good game as he put his defenders in trouble with short passes out when they were under pressure Goojier (5) - average Sutalo (5) - recipient of a poor Rmaj pass and had to get rid of the ball in a hurry but it was to an opponent and then the third goal happens Hato (5) - Cal Ripken streak continues and that was the highlight of the day for him Sosa (6.5) - had some really good deliveries into the box and defended above average Henderson (5) - come down from last wekk's performance Taylor (5.5) - absorbed to hard challenges and made a couple of good passes but still struggles Hlynsson (5.5) - let down by a poor first touch twice when there might have been a scoring opportunity Berghuis (5) - average and nothing more Brobbey (6.5) - continues to hold the ball well and make things happen, some CRs would have given a Red Card when he was hauled down as it was a possible goal scoring opportunity Forbs (4) - Bergwuijn was really missed today Akpom (5.5) - scored and that was it for his highlight as he was mediocre otherwise Home to Bodo/Glmt on Thursday in the only Euro competition Ajax have never won (of course it has only been around for two years) and then home to NEC next weekend.
I think they do but it's doubtful that it is accurate down to the millimeter which is what it looked like in this case.
Spot on report. Terrible result with some hideous play today. Ajax are not very good, and I cannot fool myself from this reality any longer. A few comments. Ajax just struggle to play good football and it’s generally pretty shocking at the defensive play, Question for Van’t Schip I have is why are guys backing off and just not aggressive going to the ball? Our defenders will allow runners to get forward and we just back pedal into our box constantly it seems. We are too slow in possession and lack quality running from our defenders and midfield far too often. Not enough proactive football and movement with lacking creativity is tough to watch Ramaj is NOT very good. Poor decisions on the ball, and with his delivery, but not a great shot stopper either. I've seen enough of him. Sutalo has been a massive waste of money. He’s not Ajax quality with regards to being capable on the ball, and is completely uncomfortable whenever he’s under pressure. Sosa can’t defend either. He’s a prime example of a reactionary slow player. Lacks athletically, possibly unfit, and does not read the game well. Another Sven gem. Taylor is softer than a tissue. No toughness at all, and just far too slow in possession which makes attacking play problematic for all. Forbs is crap. Thanks again Sven. No Bergwijn hurts badly and it just sickens me that he’s criticized by the clueless supporters. Brobbey needs more protection indeed, and he takes incredible amounts of physical manhandling every week. Red Card fouls with Defenders not even trying to play the ball is just cynical and ugly. Berghuis can’t play RW for 90 plus minutes. He simply can’t run by his man or use his right foot very well. Creative yes, but limited and predictable far too often when it matters. Akpom poor footballer. Hlynnson, Hato, and Gooijer were far from flawless but at least show some ability. Van’t Schip has few options and certainly no dynamic players to bring off the bench. Sobering result ruined my day.
I’m done with Taylor. totally agree with rich about Sutalo - what a massive waste of money. It’s unbelievable how poor he can be. that was a goal at the end. Shame that it wasn’t called a goal on the pitch. Someone mentioned about not having goal line tech in the eredivisie. Totally agree - and it’s insane. The Netherlands is a rich, highly developed country - no reason for this amateur type bullshit. At the end of the day, KNVB to blame.
The way I understand it if even 1 pixel overlaps the blue part its not a goal, and if no pixels overlap the blue part its a goal (see image below). There really is no inbetween (the same way offside is measured in VAR). Sounds to me like KNVB needs to invest in more accurate technology
Henderson thought it was a goal at the end and was surprised that the Dutch league does not have goal line technology.
The fundamental problem is this team has to be perfect every match. they don't have enough talent to have an off day and still win. It doesn't matter who they are playing. They were strong against PSV the previous week and then come out flat against Heerenveen.

Het moment in de 95e minuut van SC Heerenveen-Ajax zondagmiddag (3-2), waarbij de Amsterdammers een mogelijke gelijkmaker niet toegekend zagen worden, blaast de discussie nieuw leven in. „We zullen het zéker agenderen voor het volgende technisch directeuren-overleg”, zegt Jan de Jong, voorzitter van de ECV. Omdat niemand met zekerheid kon stellen dat de kopbal van Ajax-verdediger Josip Sutalo via Heerenveen-verdediger Sven van Beek voor honderd procent de doellijn was gepasseerd, hielden de Friezen ’gewoon’ de drie punten in de tas en liep Ajax er eentje mis. In de eindrangschikking van de Eredivisie kunnen clubs zomaar voor tonnen tot aan miljoenen euro’s getroffen worden in het geval van degradatie of het wel of niet bereiken van de verschillende Europese toernooien. De vraagt rijst of het dan nog steeds die eventueel jaarlijkse bijdrage voor die paar momenten niet waard is? Dit is natuurlijk ook een extremere variant dan wanneer dit voorvalt bij een 4-0 of 0-4 stand.” De Jong doelt op de zogeheten high frame rate-camera’s, die zorgen voor een soort AliExpress-variant op doellijntechnologie. Naar nu blijkt. Door de links en rechts van de doelpaal gepositioneerde camera’s, was de doellijn bijvoorbeeld - schuin weglopend - rechts van de paal te zien. Dan is de VAR overgeleverd aan interpretatie, komt de befaamde ’bolling van de bal’ om de hoek kijken en kan uiteindelijk niemand meer met zekerheid stellen wat wel of niet juist is op dat moment. Het wordt letterlijk en figuurlijk een grijs gebied. Geen issue Maar: „Het implementeren van dit systeem, is net zo duur als de implementatie van het VAR-systeem, inclusief de loonkosten die daarmee gepaard gaan (denk aan de personele bezetting achter de schermen, red.)”, aldus de woordvoerder van de KNVB, terwijl men er bij doellijntechnologie met enkele camera’s en een horloge van de scheidsrechter, dat vertelt of het ’wel of geen goal’ is, vanaf denkt te zijn. „Het was veel te duur, dus besloten we destijds daar niet voor te kiezen. Een beslissing van de KNVB, ECV en clubs samen, dus het is momenteel geen issue.” „De VAR kon niet bepalen of het onomstotelijk vaststond dat de bal de doellijn volledig was gepasseerd, dus was het geen goal”, aldus De Jong over het moment bij Heerenveen-Ajax. „Wat bij doellijntechnologie ook zo is, is dat er met een chip in de bal wordt gespeeld. Dat is bij ons niet aan de orde.” Al kan men er bij Ajax, Feyenoord en PSV wel gebruik maken van het systeem. Bij Europese wedstrijden schakelt de UEFA dit in. „In Nederland wordt het systeem alleen gebruikt bij de bekerfinale en de strijd om de Johan Cruijff Schaal”, aldus de woordvoerder van de KNVB. Niks in La Liga Doellijntechnologie wordt in de Engelse Premier League al sinds 2014 gebruikt. Momenteel zijn Engeland en Italië de enige twee landen waar het systeem ook op het tweede niveau wordt gebruikt: in het Championship en de Serie B. In Engeland wordt goal-line technology (GLT) ook in de bekertoernooien en de strijd om het Community Shield toegepast. In Schotland vanaf de halve finales van zijn twee bekertoernooien. In de Duitse Bundesliga deed de technologie zijn intrede in het seizoen 2015/16. Dat geldt ook voor de Franse Ligue 1, dat het gebruik ervan tijdelijk stopte in januari 2018 na een zeldzame ’error’. De Spaanse La Liga is de enige topcompetitie die helemaal geen gebruik maakt van de technologie. Bij Europese bekertoernooien en internationale eindtoernooien voor landen (onder meer het EK en WK) is het systeem ook in gebruik.

Brian Brobbey, Jorrel Hato and Josip Sutalo can't afford a yellow card this match, as they will be suspended for the return. Especially Hato can't be missed in the away game as both PSV and AZ in the last two years have been defeated in the north of Norway. The Norwegians are a strong team at home.
Just a horrific week -- PSV tie was fine but Twente gained 5 points on us. 9 points behind with 13 matches left is a steep hill to climb. Thankfully AZ has been awful too and still only 1 behind them. There is a really big difference between 4th and 5th at least. I assume they'll play 100% normal lineup vs. Bodo today. But dropping out of Conference League to fully focus on 3rd/4th place in the Eredivisie might not be the worst thing in the world.
