I had a thread about this last season ... and some people disagree about what an unsung hero is ....

Traditionally, it's a guy on the team that isn't highly paid and isn't trumpeted in the media much meaning they don't get a lot of credit for the very important role they are playing. Generally these aren't the guys scoring goals.

For example, Spennie Zizi Powell Chung Hendo Pablo & Cannon are all highly paid and thus held in high regard with managment.

Pedro doesn't exactly qualify because goal scorers always have their praises sung.

So here's my list of candidates for this year thus far:
    DLT
    Kotschau
    Sullivan
    Crawford
    Beckerman
    Borchers

Last year I felt that unsung hero was Kotschau ... this year however I feel two players are deserving ... DLT and Crawford.

DLT because he's versitile and has brought quite a bit of stablization to the right side of the field ... helping Henderson get back on track ... and he has sometimes quietly sometimes not so quietly helped our attack (for what that is worth).

But who I'd say is a seriously UNSUNG hero ... is Crawford. This guy has filled in hole after hole and has more often than not performed very admirably.

I'm not setting any criteria here ... so if you think Spenny should be the unsung hero so far ... feel free ... but I think that we should take a second to sing a lessor profiled player's praises.

    What say you?

DLT would be my choice for the unsung hero. I would put Crawford in the most improved player category. I ragged on him last year and was afraid whenever he stepped on the field. This year he's been very solid and has earned his playing time.

Jean-Phillipe Peguerro is the unsung hero for the rapids.

    PLAYER Jean Philippe Peguero

    TEAM COLORADO
    Games Played 9
    Goals 4
    Assists 2
    Points 10

Try coming from a 3rd world country and playing professional in the USA. Constantly worrying about your family's safety back home. All that drama going on in your country. And still leading your team in Pts. Now that's an unsung hero.

Vote for Pedro to All Star Squad.

At this point in the season I'd go for DLT. As shown last night his set piece ability has given a new dimension to the Rapids' game. He played a nice ball from a FK well outside the box that was knocked down for Borchers to blast in. He played the corner that eventually got to Cila for the wining goal. In addition he has been used in multiple positions. IMO his most effective position is at right back where he overlaps well with the attacking winger to get forward and pressure defenses. His passing ability is very good. He's the kind of wing back a team needs.

Um, unsung means that nobody really talks about him but he's always there doing the business. Sorry, as good as Pedro has been, he's not unsung.

Same goes for DLT and Crawford. Both have had their play noticed by fans and media, especially Crawford, who has gotten tons of praise for his improvement this year.

Again, for me, it's Ritchie. Does anybody ever talk about this guy? Yet there he is, game in game out, getting the job done but no publicity. He's also been called up to the last few Nats squads (yet to play but hey, he's there). Nobody gets less attention than Ritchie but plays so well.

Or do you leave unsung status when you get a Nat call up? Crawford hasn't had that yet. :)

Good point but Ritchie still doesn't get talked about in the media or here nearly as much as DLT and Crawford. It's a subjective thing but you only notice Ritchie when he messes up and that isn't often.

Very good point about the call ups ... I almost didn't include Nat or Kyle because they are getting recognized at the next level (olympics).

But I'd say Richie is pretty unsung. And I do agree with what was said about him.

For me it's either Borchers or Crawford. I think DLT has been getting recognition, but I rarely see a word about Crawford and Borchers. On the backline Pablo has looked good in defense. Kotschau looked good when covering for Pablo. Even Sullivan, a rookie, didn't look horrible. The constant though has been Borchers. It makes me wonder if he's the type of backline player that allows Pablo to be great, Kotschau to look good in central defense, and Sullivan look like a rookie with promise. Throw in the goal he scored last night, and I'd say he has the edge.

Crawford on the other hand has not only played well, but has played well in each of the roles he's been thrown in. That's tough, and he's been up to it.

I cast my vote for DLT. He constantly does little things that get the attack started, and while he may not get the assist, in my book, he has lots of assists. His only real disability is lack of speed, but I think that is made up for by all the good things he does. :)

your unsung hero last night was delgado. he had an incredible game, especially for someone who was just signed off the street. he held the ball up, got assists, got fouled leading to dangerous free kicks, won corners, etc., everything you can ask of a lone point man in a 4-5-1 on the road. great game. great pickup.

I think DLT is a well-sung hero. Who doesn't speak his praises?

Exactly. If you guys are talking about an unheralded player coming in or someone whose play has been unexpected, then DLT and Crawford are the men. I don't think anybody expected them to play as well as they have, DLT being a furry foreigner and all and Crawford a second year guy that didn't play well his rookie year. Unsung is a bit different though.

And Borchers, yeah, he's unsung all right. Nobody has talked about him this year or expected him to play well.

I think people had very high expectations for him. Some argued that he'd be hurting without Fraser, but in general I think most fans expected more good play. We've received just that, and for the most part I think it's gone unmentioned.

Just to clarify ... unsung has nothing to do with Expectations.
