I was gonna post it a few days ago, but wanted to see how the situation played out for a bit. Obviously it's a bit of a mess, but my understanding of Bolivian history is - no offense intended if you're reading, Jaime Moreno - that Bolivian history is best characterized, overall, as a 'bit of a mess'.

"Nationalism also plays a key role. The idea of selling off Bolivia's gas to the US was always certain to anger the president's left-wing opponents, fearful of being exploited by the "gringos" to the north. "

    Damn Gringos. :)

" LA PAZ, Bolivia — Armored vehicles rammed into the doors of Bolivia’s government palace Wednesday as a top government official warned of a coup attempt and President Luis Arce said “irregular” deployments of troops were taking place in the capital. "

Bolivia's presidential palace has been stormed by soldiers as the country's ex-president warned of an unfolding "coup".

"We are going to recover this homeland," General Juan José Zúñiga told reporters from Murillo Square after it was taken by troops, according to the El Deber newspaper."

I find comments like this confusing. Why? Do you think all liberals are socialists? If so, then you need to stop watching Fox News because it has hindered your ability to think critically. You simply recite propaganda as if it is reality. Seriously, stop being stupid.

Are accusations that Zuñiga is backed by the US credible at all? :cautious: Seems like a bit of a stretch.

Latinos are always blaming the CIA for everything.

Something that I am seeing, people that are supporting the coup keep calling Evo Morales a Pedophile, maybe that insult is a right wing thing, I do not know.

It's one thing for the Gringos to destabilize South American economies, support torturers, murder presidents, and so on. But when they go as far as beating a South American team in futbol, all hell breaks lose. Enough is enough!

It very much is. But as we've seen, it's also usually a projection.

Just like that it seems to be over, maybe just a show of force.

"The military has left the presidential palace and the plaza.

I guess Bolivia will have 2 sets of military leaders until this fully settles.

The President has fired the General (Generals) behind the coup attempt and named new commanders.

I'm going to summon @spejic by mentioning Blake's 7 - an old British sci fi tv show about a revolutionary who escapes captivity with a number of convicted criminals, takes over an advanced alien spacecraft and uses it to go fighting the totalitarian Earth government. The revolutionary, Blake, was first accused of being a political dissident and had his mind wiped, but when his memories start to come back, the bad guys accuse him of being a pedophile - then he gets sent off to the penal colony, escapes, steals the spaceship, and the adventure commences.

Anyways, the charges of child molestation are used as kind of an indefensible thing - even if someone is very likely to be innocent, if there's even a small chance that the charges are true, people support locking up the accused, in order to protect the children. You saw this with Qanon stuff over the last several years - even if the whole thing is super unlikely, if there's a small chance that kids are being trafficked in the basement of the pizza place, you'd better show up there with a gun just to be sure.

    "
An hour later, Arce announced new heads of the army, navy and air force amid the roar of supporters. Video showed troops setting up blockades outside the government palace. He said the troops who rose against him were “staining the uniform” of the military and vowed that democracy would be respected.

“I order all that are mobilized to return to their units, said the newly named army chief José Wilson Sánchez. “No one wants the images we’re seeing in the streets.”"

One of the things that coup supporters keep mentioning is that Evo Morales may try to run for President again and that was one of the reasons behind the coup, I do not know how real is that, if it is similar how Maga claims that Obama is the real power behind Biden.

It’s disgraceful that you are fanning these flames by boosting a random tweet. You can find any damn thing on the internet. It takes judgment, which you lack, to decide what is worth posting and what isn’t.

There have been at least two allegations from minors, but Morales has denied the claims. One of the minors even added a paternity claim, which he also denied. At one point, there were calls to bring him to justice, but he said it was all politically motivated. There was also a paternity claim from a former girlfriend (not underage) in which he admitted that he had a child, but claimed that the child had died, and the woman claimed that he was still alive. One would think that a paternity claim wouldn't be hard to prove if true, but it's Bolivia, so who knows?

When a South American country loses to the US, unrest follows.
