All of these are better than roads named after Confederates. Yes I'm speaking about you Northern Virginia with Lee Highway and Jefferson Davis Highway.

PS: The remaining portions of Jefferson Davis Highway in VA were renamed in 2022.

In NYC, there's a Jackie Robinson Parkway, which I suppose is okay, I guess, since baseball wasn't his only thing. But there's also a Gil Hodges Bridge which is just silly.

In all of NYC there are no bridges, tunnels, or highways named after minorities other than the Jackie Robinson Pkwy and there's only one named after a woman, the Hutchinson River Parkway. There are at least two named after Brooklyn Dodgers.

There's a great sight gag in The Good Place that takes advantage of this tendency which you rightfully decry.

My old town had Kasey Keller Drive a block away from Sleater Kinney Road. One for the US goalie, the other for a local rock band (well, actually the band was named after the street, but that's a minor detail).

Royal Oak has a lot of big names they could name streets after. Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Keegan Michael-Key among others.

My hometown has a Carl Sandburg Drive. And a Carl Sandburg College. And a Carl Sandburg Mall, which sadly, is one of the most decrepit malls still standing. Interestingly, he grew up in the blue collar part of town, which remains the blue collar part of town. His birthplace is still maintained where it is. But everything else is on the upscale side of town.

Upscale being relative. Basically, it's where the houses that aren't falling down are. Mostly.

Saturn is leaving Pisces tomorrow, completing it's 30 year journey around the Sun that began in April of 1996. As the planet responsible for karma, expect to see themes that emerged around that time and were persistent throughout to begin to receive resolutions. It is interesting that the first mention of Epstein to the FBI happened around 1997 with all of these disclosures coming up. Other themes I'm watching for would be the Internet (which has gone from a place of free expression to being highly regulated and controlled) and wealth disparity (which rose dramatically in the 15 years that Pluto was in Capricorn, a sign in Pluto that amplifies material gain and power).

Saturn being in Pisces the last three years has brought about a ton of illusions about reality and while it has been moving towards Aries these illusions have been brought down. It transited briefly there last summer, so expect themes and feelings from Summer 2025 to start settling back in. Buckle up because it's going to be a very harsh transition of energy and I expect a lot of what has been up in the air across the past three years to start settling into more definite and explosive action as Aries encourages and rewards direct action.

A town near where I grew up named an elementary school after Steve Garvey. From the LA Dodgers.

It was noteworthy a few years later when he got caught having an affair.

I argued several months ago in that thread that close family of famous people shouldn't be in the RIP thread. Which basically encompasses your point.

Of course they can. Its just that we have other forums available to celebrate them. But heck, most threads around here get off track pretty quickly.
