Come Undone and Ordinary People are among my faves as well, although Hungry Like the Wolf is still tops.
I dabbled on a bass guitar when I was a teenager. I could mimic some legendary bass players without completely embarrassing myself too badly. But John Taylor was always unplayable to me. Not bad for a dude in a boy band.
Use to have Wolf on repeat, but eventually got bored of it. Now I'll listen if I hear it somewhere, but not as interested as I once was. I still like Duran Duran, just not as excited about the 1980s version of them as I once was.
I mean, it's an alright album and there are songs that I've heard and went, "Alright, not bad" but it's not exactly mind blowing. Either way, there's been times the Grammys have had it right. Carole King's Tapestry as album of the year? Hell yeah. That's a great album. Then there are times where I wonder if the people involved are drunk. Like giving Beck album of the year in 2015 (And I love Beck, but even I was surprised and that's not a bad album either).
Steve Albini, the music engineer had a great interview in the AV Club about why he hated trends in music. His reasoning was just marking it for a time period. And Duran Duran is solid, but man they are also distinctly 80s.
In my digital music, I have 3 playlists for random songs from here and there; to me the “Unit of listening” is till the album. Anyway, Come Undone is in my A list. Great, great song. Hungry Like the Wolf was the theme song for NC State’s Cardiac Pack run in 1983. So I’m obligated to hate that song. True story, kids…in the 1970 and early 80, the big rivalry was State vs Carolina in basketball, not Dook vs Carolina.
I'm not convinced yet, but I'm now better than 50/50 on it. Trump could genuinely be impeached by end of 2026.
From your lips (fingers?) to God's ears (eyes?), but I just can't see elected Republicans turning on him. Even if the midterms look like they're going to come crashing down on them.
He's clearly terrified of the Epstein file. Clearly. The shut down issue will continue to bubble away next year and their is a civil war brewing within MAGA. His scorched earth approach to everything could burn it all down I think.
Oops. I forgot this was the Unpopular Opinions thread. Your post is right on for this thread. What I would hope would happen is that as the screws tighten, Trump gets wilder and more authoritarian and loses support. As a wise person said, the more you tighten your grip, the more star systems will slip through your fingers, and while that was said by Princess Leia in the original Star Wars movie, it holds true here - Trump needs to maintain the illusion of control by going more and more authoritarian, and this will lose support in the upcoming elections. But it hasn't happened yet. I feel like it should have happened during his first term, or before the 2024 election and he wouldn't have been re-elected, but it didn't. It's still possible for things to break down in a way that really ********s the country and/or the world. (a) A wag the dog military action against Venezuela. (b) Troops in California, Illinois, or wherever start shooting the locals, starting a civil war. (c) Terrorist attack gets Trump to cancel the midterms. (That was my prediction from a few months ago, but I think it's less likely now.) Trump isn't going down without a very messy ending. We just hope it's a mess for him and his supporters, and less so for his opponents and any innocents caught in the crossfire.
Here's an example. A lot of articles on this one, I think this does a good job explaining it. Just a little bribery and extortion involving the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Got caught fishing without a license? No problem, you can do a pre-trial diversion. And those fees you pay - I wonder where that money goes? (Just to provide the update, everyone was found guilty.) https://thecurrentla.com/2025/haynes-wanted-in-on-wildlife-bribery-scheme-too-informant-says/ This is relatively minor stuff, of course.
It’s also a song that in its heyday virtually every child taking piano lessons learned at some point and played at a recital. Myself included along with multiple other students of my teacher. Also never saw the movie and have the same visual of it that you do.
Morrison Hotel is a solid album. Peace Frog in particular sounds like it should’ve been a hit single. Maybe the repeating line of “blood on the streets” disqualified it.
I don't think Article 25 happens because his cabinet will go down with him. They have no choice now. And, they know they are politically and legally complicit in many arguably illegal acts, and definitely impeachable offenses. While Congress have been complicit too, it's been different. If they get a overwhelming sense that Trump's primary power has been arrested, I can see many of them turning and voting to impeach.
We arent a parliamentary system.Cabinet secretaries will agree to bend the knee to Vance and the ship sails on.
Based on events of the past few years, my heart weeps for the quality of marksmanship of high profile idiots. Of course, I am against violence.
