Melanie Kasparek – Rhode Island Freshman, Forward, Trumbull, CT/Trumbull HS Kasparek laced up her cleats in her first collegiate game, tallied a goal and an assist, and never looked back en route to tying for the most points scored in the Atlantic 10 this season with 35...found the back of the net a team-high 13 times, good for second in the Conference, and dished out nine assists, also tying her for second in the league...was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week a league-high four times during the regular season and recorded three multi-goal games on the year. if it wasnt for SCU, URI would be my favorite team.....and if it wasnt for aly wagner, the kasparek sisters would be my favorite, but non the less, a great year for URI, and they should be proud of what they've accomplished.
I didn't make the game on Sunday but I went to the URI game on Friday night. Kasparek is a nice player. They really didn't use her as much as I thought they should have in the game against Dartmouth. She was definitely the standout player on the team. When she touched the ball things happened. Great speed too. A friend of mine played/graduated from URI so I went with her. She was really impressed by her too.
Just another note, the goalie from URI played great against Dartmouth too. She had some real steady hands. She made some catches in the crowd that were real tough.
