It's probably too late for this idea, as the regional supporters groups idea seems to already be rolling, but I thought I'd throw it out anyway. What about people from each individual area getting together to make flags that are --- United. As in Clarendon United, Georgetown United, Annandale United, etc.? They could be in a basically standard format, just a black flag with white text, name of the place on top and United on the bottom. They could be hung along the upper deck railing, like some banners were hung towards the end of this season. They wouldn't have to be too big - 3x5, 4x6 or so. It might look really cool to see them circling the stadium.
Not a bad idea - it is a shame we don't have a flag that's allowed to be modified the way England does.
And every other flag in the world Tho in Croatia we try not to bring national flags with city names to club games. I was going to make a small Barra Brava Gaithersburg, but regional flags are kind of silly if you don't have a group behind it Sounds like Baltimore at least has a group that goes to games together (I might be wrong)
We could create one. Use a black flag with three horizontal white stripes. Town name above, United below.
if this results in a few more flags/banners at rfk, amen. but i do agree that at this point all this "regional" stuff is silly
or why not the washington dc flag with "anytown" on the first line and united on the 2nd http://www.flagsexpress.com/ter_flag/021878.htm im not from dc, but just a suggestion though i like the dcu flag idea better
Using the DC flag isn't a bad idea. It's a nice, simple design and lends itself easily to adding text. But somehow...black is better to me, I guess mainly because that's our primary color. If we could have dozens of black banners, black flags, everyone wearing black in the stands...it would look awesome. But...different groups could do flags in whatever way they wanted. Also, I think it would look better if Anytown/United were in white rather than red. I'll see if I can work up something.
black is cool, but it also has a tendency to blend in rather than stand out. Customized DC flags circling the place would look awesome.
The Northern (Baltimore) group is being formed primarily to attend the MLS Super Draft! and to organize watch parties for away games (instead of making the trip down to VA). I don't really think it's silly. It just shows that United is part of the regional community and vice versa. We don't all live or work in DC.
This is very true, DC is so transient of a city, it's hard to maintain a solid base of support for any team. I, however, both work and live in DC. I'm wondering how many of us DC United supporters there are out there that can say the same?
to clarify, i don't think the idea in general is silly, just the opposite. i hope folks will get together and build some groups based on where they are. perhaps this whole thing is chicken and egg argument ;-) i come from the place where regional supporters groups were well developed. but we also had regional type events and meeting places where hundreds/thousands of folks would gather before heading to the stadium. in that environment putting up banner that didn't have any real organization behind it was discouraged. i can just imaging a convoy of cars heading to rfk from baltimore/kilroys/name your place with flags hanging from the windows ;-) perhaps something like this is being done now, and i just haven't heard about it. peace.
Yeah...The formation of these "satellite" groups is great for people like me. I live in southern PA and cannot justify driving to DC on a Saturday just to have some beers and watch a game on TV. But Baltimore is much closer for me.
That sounds like a great idea. I'll have to pitch that to the Northerners (naming in progress). We'll just have to make sure there's some sober drivers for the convoy or else we'd just be a bunch of drunk DC fans in a parking lot in Baltimore. Ha! This whole regional thing is just in its early stages, so we'll have to wait to see how it turns out. If successful, one of the main results would probably be a greater visibility for United which of course would mean more fans in the stands.
