    Rimando 4.5 another soft goal
Ivanov 5.5 relatively solid, but some scary backpasses
    Petke 6 good performance
Prideaux 6 also played another solid game
Nelsen 7 red card was an awful call, was our best player before send off, but got caught out of position on Pricki's goal
Olsen 5 Seems to be out of sync with his teammates, but works hard
Convey 6 decent game, but seemd to drift in and out
Etcheverry 6.5 nice PK, was working hard though obviously hurting
Kovalenko 6 much more useful in wide midfield role
Stewart 5.5 working hard, but needs to finish his chances
Eskandarian 5.5 has some pretty amazing leaping ability, god hustle

Stoitchkov 4 do we really need this a-hole on our team?
Curtis 5 didn't get much chance to do anything

Hudson 3.5 needed to get some fresh legs out there sooner, but the starting lineup was a good choice

Rimando - 4.0 Bad goal and almost another that went through his legs. Also a punch out in the 2nd half that should have been converted.

Ivanov - 6.0 Solid game. Impressive composure on the ball

Petke - 6.0 Solid game. Impressive composure on the ball

Pridaux - 5.5 Solid game. From the TV he dissapeard a couple of times. Maybee he was shuting Kline down.

Nelsen - 3.0 Was effective while on the field. However the red card hurt DC badly. An automatic 3 point deduction

Olsen - 4.0 Was he on the field?

Convey - 5.5 He was picking up steam late in the game. I was sure a score would result . Too bad he got hurt.

Kovalenko - 5.5 Effective, however he needs to ge shots on goal. Good pressure on the defenders in the offensive end of the field.

Etchevery - 6.0 Very good game. First time I saw him let the game come to him. Was very effective in the last 3rd of the field. If only we could finish like he did on the PK.

Stewart - 6.0 The off sides goal should have counted. Dangerous all night and maybee we have our new defensive midfielder? :)

Escadrian - 5.0 Good effort. A number of times he seems to pass off rather than shoot. Does he have an outside shot?

Stoichkov - 5.5 He did well in slowing down the play to get our guys some rest at the end of the game. We played down a man for 50 minutes and needed some gamesmanship from him to give tired legs a rest. He created a good cross that Olsen should have converted had he made a proper back post run.

Curtis 3.5 - Esky at minute 90 put in more effort that him. Cut this guy if he is not running as this is supposed to be his strenght. This bugger jogged most of the OT. !@#$ Useless substitution.

    Re: Player Grades

I think alot of people need to check the replay of that goal. Seeing it live, my immediate thought was "what in the heck was Rimando doing?" On second look it was clearly an unlucky deflection.

But I know somebody is still going to argue he should have predicted that deflection and challenged the laws of physics to stop himself in mid leap and move to the left to block the ball.

Still not his greatest game I agree. But I don't think he was at fault on the goal. Why haven't we figured out its not wise to let Preki dribble twenty five yards towards the goal?? :)

Rimando - 4.5 (Not sure the goal was his fault, but the muffed backpass worried me. Made a couple saves look rather routine with good positioning).

Ivanov - 5 (Good on the ball, willing to move forward, but got caught out of position a couple times. His 'Ole defense on one KC rush was nearly costly).

    Petke - 7 (Solid)

    Prideaux - 7.5 (Solid +)

Nelsen - 6 (I can't fault him too much for the red as being a stupid play. I don't think any player can make the play he did thinking it could be a red.)

Olsen - 3 (Not impressed. Not at all.)

Convey - 8.5 (Got to the corner, attacked his man 1v.1, which set up the PK, which was the goal. Exactly what this team has lacked all year.)

Etcheverry - 7 (One of his better games and I disagree with the person who said he didn't play any defense. He pressured a good bit after turnovers and United won some balls back as a result, even if it wasn't Marco himself taking the ball away.)

Kovalenko - 6.5 (I like him a lot better when Nelsen is at D-Mid and Convey/Etch in the middle. Allowed him to get forward up the left instead of wandering. More focused.)

Stewart - 5 (Missed a clear chance and still a bit too much hysterics for me.)

Eskandarian - 5.5 (Good positioning for the most part, wish he could have done a little more on the ball. But, he works well with Stewart and if these two continue to play together, these ranking numbers will increase.)

Stoitchkov - 4 (I liked that he took on Preki and even though it didn't quite connect, the ball he tried to play to Eskandarian crossfield was priceless. That said, his "combative nature" was perhaps not suited for a match already teetering on the brink of mob violence.)

Curtis - NR (Just didn't see anything to rate him on).

HUDSON - 6.5 (I thought the lineup and tactics were very well put together, just unlucky to not get a 2nd goal, particularly on Stewart's "offside" and the header miss. Was also glad to see others taking restarts, even if they didn't pan out. Unlike others who longed to see some fresh legs in the final 20-25 minutes, I was particularly glad he stuck with Esky/Earnie up front. They needed time to play together in a competitive situation and they both will be better for it at Dallas in 2 weeks, I think).

Overall: I think even though United are still a winless team, I don't think they played like one on Saturday.

    Ed

PS: Next time I will think better than to predict Preki will score in the 6th minute in the pre-match thread. I didn't think it would, you know, um, actually happen! :)

Rimando--4.5 bad luck on the deflection, but shaky all night. i think we are seeing the lack of simpson here.
    Ivanov--5.5 i thought a game first effort
Petke--6 rock like in the middle
Prideaux--6.5 the best player in the defense
Nelsen--5 played a smart game, lack of speed left him exposed at times
Olsen--4.5 not a good time, comebacks are long and hard
Convey--6 i thought a nice all around game
Etcheverry--5.5 a decent game and good adjustment to a less central role.
Kovalenko--5.5 good runs down the flank in the second half
Stewart--6.5 easily his best game in the black and red, ripped off on the "offsides", had some great chances
Eskandarian--5 i like his workrate but he needs to work a bit on creating and holding spaces to get dangerous

Stoitchkov--3 while flashes of skill show up, his head seems to be somewhere else.
Curtis--3 man i wish stewart would give him a little dutch tutorial on space and how the touchline becomes a defender if you show perpendicular to the line.

i haven't graded yet this year, hope i don't ruin the averages...

We really need to decide whether we are on a 9 point scale (a 5 is average) or a 10 point scale (a 5 is slightly below average).

As requested the week before last, I'm using the 10 point scale.

    Rimando 6
    Ivanov 6
    Petke 6
    Prideaux 6
Nelsen 3 (Red Card was justified)
    Olsen 3 (backpass after backpass)
    Convey 6
    Etcheverry 6
    Kovalenko 4
    Stewart 6
    Eskandarian 6

Starters: 5.3 (A tie at home against an average team is a slightly below average outcome.)

    Stoitchkov 4
    Curtis NR
