I don't know, but I bet it's a situation where the coaches, on any team, don't have a hand in it at all. If it is part of their job, sure, he should take the blame, but if it's nothing he's ever dealt with, or any coach really, I don't know why he should take that hit.
(in my best Jim Mora voice) Uh, points?? Don't talk about -- points?? You kidding me?!?! Points?! I just hope we can show some competence.
Another quote comes to mind: John McKay, head coach, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1976 (truly dreadful team that year) Post (disastrous) game press conference: (Reporter) "What do you think of your team's execution, coach?" (McKay, growling) "I'm all in favor of it!"
Would not be surprised if Yow was too beat up to continue. He was railroaded 3 or 4 times. Two of the goals, and least, were due to pulling Birnbaum out of position. Atlanta created and exploited the resulting chaos. Asad, and all the guys, really, worked hard. Compared to the first 10 games of the year, it was downright fluid. Yow and Nyeman are going to be players in this league. But we were still thoroughly dismantled. Another disappointing result in a long series. Don't really have any use for hope at this point. You win, FO.
And we will agree to disagree, I think Birnbaum did have an angle. I have made that play and I am 52.
The coaches don't have a hand, at all, in setting the 18? It shouldn't be the head coach's ultimate responsibility to make sure that something - if rules are followed (big if in MLS) -- that could cause you to forfeit a game is done right? Remember kiddies -- Ben can't fail, he can only be failed by others!
It says a good bit about Olsen that he didn't take responsibility even if it's an intern's job. It affects how he coaches so he should create an atmosphere of no Fups in the clubhouse.
Agree, it’s classic Ben. He calls the players fragile and a second later ducks talking about his screw up. they aren’t the only fragile ones. Olsen out
What ever happened to the forfeit here? That would be worth +1 in goal differential. Or did Garber just look at Levien and say unambitious, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son, now get the fu_k out of my office.
I suppose it would be wrong of me to point out that DC's record with Ashton holding the reins is considerably better than Ben's. The sample size is small, but I'm not sure we've lost a game under him. And before you ask, I looked up the exact number a year or two ago and I'm too lazy to do it again. it was more than a few and less than a dozen.
