70th minute now. 1-0 United. Forlan scoring 37 min, Beckham with his first assist of the season.

    Did you see Beckham's goal?

    O'Shea - Brown - Ferdinand - Silvestre

This is the back line United should be using, in my opinion.

And now, and I don't say this very often, I'll be rooting for the Scousers tomorrow.

Let us not forget Barthez's 2 saves. Otherwise, it could have been alot different. United still didn't take their chances. United could've/should've had 4 or 5 goals. When you don't score, your GK had better bail you out & Barthez did.

    Barthez

After all of his boneheaded plays last year, not many people seem to consider Barthez a top keeper anymore, but I think that he has played very well this year.

Barthez's problem is that he is not Peter Schmeikel..... no one will ever be able to follow successfully in the foot steps of a player like that.... it's just too much to live up to.

I saw quick highlights on FSW tonight. Forlans goal was well taken but Becks chip was superb. looked so carefree yet we were only 1-0 up.

Three points! Happy Happy Joy Joy....but why don't I feel so good after watching United squander so many scoring chances? Seems to be the norm this year. Anyone else feel uneasy?

Watching the half time goals from yesterday during the half time of the Arsenal - L'pool match and it was definately the goal of the day.

Nope, if we were playing crappy and not creating chances then I'd be getting worried. We'll buy a player or two in the next few weeks and all will be fine.

And the draw between those two will do nicely for United. Five points down and counting.

Everyone is talking about Becks' chip, but the pass was equally sublime. He used the outside of the instep to play a ball a good 25-30 yards to allow Beckham to spring the trap and take the ball in stride.

Every time you think Veron should go, he does something like this to make you realize he has as much talent as any player in the world.

Overall, though, it was a slightly above-average effort. Although Birmingham was packing the box, we really shouldn't have had to sweat the close calls in the 2nd half.

Oh, and Paul Scholes has been abysmal for the past 3 games. Hopefully, it's just a minor drop in form.

He's been playing with an ankle injury for a few weeks now, and also Ruud has been hurt with a toe problem and probably won't play against Sunderland.

I knew about Ruud's injury but wasn't aware of Scholes' -- strange that he played then, b/c both Veron and Keane were available in the middle. Presumably Giggs was able to play as well and was just being rested, so I'm a little surprised he didn't start.

Sorry, it was a back injury, not ankle. These are from Sir Alex's notes on Boxing Day:

No one's mentioned Keane's performance. I thought he showed signs of the old dynamic Keane, particularly in the first half, which I didn't see in the Middlesbrough match.

Didn't know that Scholes had been injured. For me this was Paul's worst performance in a long time but why the hell Alex played him out left with Giggs available is beyond me. Sure, Ryan's having a bad run of games, but Scholes is no wide midfield player.

Just saw Becks' chip on the EPL show - one of the goals of the year! And a nice pass by Veron to spring him. :D
