Also i am idiot who’s about a day behind because today is clearly the 18th not the 17th as i’d like to believe
i expect berhalter to be exposed big test for luna....will be tough for him to hang physically very interested to see how trusty hangs...he could be a late add to the final roster here if he plays well expecting tolkin to play a similar style to arfsten.....cruious to see him too....was kinda hoping to see dest there and freeman at RB but nice to see tolkin get a chance
Methinks Tolkin needs a good game or else he might be left behind. p.s. I'm probably not gonna be able to watch this live given it's during dinner time here so... catch y'all later on?
Uruguay Lineup: Goalkeeper: Fiermarin - 27 year old earning only his 2nd cap with the first coming last month against Dominican Republic. He plays for Deportes Tolima in Colombia's top flight. Left Back: Vina - Former Roma and Bournemouth player who now plays for Flamengo in Brazil. He's not getting a lot of time though, he only has a single 2 minute sub appearance since late September LCB: Olivera - Primarily a Left Back at the club level he does sometimes move centrally for the national team. He's currently with Napoli, where he hasn't started their last 2 matches but did start before that. RCB: Araujo - Not much to say, he's the captain of a Spanish Club called FC Barcelona. Right Back: Nandez - Spent 5 seasons with Cagliari in Italy (4 in Serie A, 1 in Serie B), but left in 2024 to join Al Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia. He was subbed off in the 75th minute in their last match but has otherwise played every single minute this season. LCM: de Arrascaeta - 31 year old who left Uruguay in 2015 to join Cruzeiro in Brazil for 4 seasons before joining fellow Brazilian club Flamengo in 2019 where he's been since. He plays as more of a #10 for his club and does have a pretty nuts 17 goals and 13 assists in 30 games this year CDM: Ugarte - He's played for big clubs, he joined Sporting CP in 2021, he spent the 2023-24 season with PSG before joining Manchester United last year. He's only started 2 of their 9 PL matches so far, but does see the field in nearly every game RCM: Betancur - Their captain tonight. After spending 4.5 seasons with Juventus he joined Spurs in the middle of the 2021-22 seasons. He's started 7 of their 10 matches so far this season Left Wing: Araujo - Left Uruguay to join Liga MX in 2020 where he spent about 4 seasons between Puebla and Toluca before being sold to Sporting CP. He missed most of August with an injury but has started every match when healthy Right Wing: Zalazar - Born and raised in Spain but his dad played for The Uruguay National Team. He joined Eintracht Frankfurt for 3 seasons as a 20 year old but spent that entire time on loan at various German levels. He eventually got signed to a permanent deal by Schalke but was sold to Braga in Portugal after just one season where's he's currently in his 3rd season. He does start for them and has 4 goals on the season Striker: Vinas - He moved to Mexico to join Club America in 2019 where he spent 4 seasons before going to fellow Mexican Club Leon in 2023-24. After spending one season there he was put on a 2 year loan to Spanish Club Oviedo that runs through this season. After spending last season in The Segunda Division he helped take them to La Liga where has been starting though in the last few matches as more of a winger.
We have such limited opportunities to gel a first choice(ish) side that it feels very bad to be tinkering at end of roster with one of those opportunities.
I’m generally more positive on Poch than most anyone else around here. I hate this 11. In my estimation there are very few players that actually matter, or who Will genuinely factor in the World Cup, even if a handful of them fill out the meaningless bottom of the roster, who are about to start vs one of the few genuine tests we get this year. Why not start the scrubs vs Paraguay and the legit guys vs Uruguay?
missing valverde and a couple ther regulars.....sucks that all of thse matches lately seem to be missing key guys like caicedo, pacho, hincapie, valverde, nunez, mitoma, kubo, doan, suzuki, minamino its almsot as if it has been by design....all these teams missing their 2 or 3 best players - japan, urugauy, ecuador....their difference makers, some of whom are worth up to 100m$...taking valverde and nunez off uruguay is a big deal......sucks
this was always about testing players...did you think the paraguay game was pochs a-team??!? lol not even close hes doing this on purpose..wants to test guys and see what they got
the sytem and tactics he will use are so basic and simple it doesnt matter how much chemistry the guys will have beforehand...plus they all have already played a ton with each other anyway its more about intensity than anything (in pochs mind) but of course he will pick who he thinks is best
I’d rather have a stadium full of Uruguayans than a 1/4 filled house. Jesus we’ve regressed in support.
No US coach should be hugging and kissing so long with the opponents coach so long right before the game.
