Starting Lineup: USMNT lineup vs IranTurnerDestReamCarter-VickersRobinsonAdamsMcKennieMusahWeahSargentPulisic#USAvIRN— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) November 29, 2022
Still no creativity in midfield. Hope it works out. Berhalter really is going to live or die on his exclusion of Reyna and Aaronson. So odd.
Wow. I did not see this starting line-up happening. The inclusion of Haji Wright means Berhalter must think Iran will come out swinging and that it will be an open game. The exclusions of Brenden Aaronson and Gio Reyna are puzzling, and concerning. But I believe in this team. LET'S GO BOYS!!
Two of our best players will end up playing a combined 50 or so minutes it appears in the group stage. ******** YOU GREGG
No Zimmerman is a big surprise. Worried about counters even more now since Dest and Robinson are asked to be way up field. The CB pairing that hasnt played together is weird. The rest is pretty expected. I would have went with Weah up top and bring in Reyna and Aaronson for Sarge and Musah. Let Musah come in for Wes if still needing a goal. 2 shots on goal and Reyna not playing is weird but oh well. Feeling nervous, and excited. The world cup is great. Let's go win easy here.
One comment about Reyna -- if it's tied or we're losing at halftime, I could see Gregg making a halftime sub to bring him on. Bob Bradley was notorious in the 2010 World Cup for making impactful subs to change games. I still would have preferred to see both Reyna and Aaronson in the starting line-up today.
CCV... I understand the reason for it but still risky given the lack of experience together with ream and the rest of the back line.
Just wow. Hope the legs hold up. Better see some subs early in second half. Or multiple goals early on. GO USA!!
I was a proponent of CCV making the team--and I have been very impressed with his play at Celtic--but his inclusion in the starting line up makes me very nervous.
I wish we had more chances to see Aaronson and especially Reyna myself and would like to see us set up differently to take advantage of them, would have liked to have seen more minutes from Gio in the first couple games. That said, this is the result of putting team defense and a stout midfield above attacking with the ball and for a team like the US, not a top side more of a mid-level grinding type of team, that doesn't lack logic. If it goes wrong, we can all spend the rest of the next several days talking about how poor it all was, but as long as we're still alive I'd rather reserve judgement to a large degree. A hard-fought game and a 1-0 win moving on to play another day is all that is needed. And if we get it, I'll be quite happy even if we continue to look a bit stodgy.
Watch their counters, get shots on goal, catch them on transition, win your duels, be disciplined, take advantage of your opportunities. Let’s go!!!!!!!
