our 3 line should function far better, though that doesnt necessarily mean more production or effectiveness. tolkin is big defensive upgrade, but who the "3rd cb" is (and where they come from) will be the biggest factor in our play overall. freeman has looked pretty bad (though sullivan at least gives us presense on that side, tolkin could possibly give us an inverse look but that would put ream in more space. adams is obviously our most capable cm to drop in. weve used both looks in all four of the last matches, so theres no reason to think we wont today.
If we were to be playing a decent team this lineup would concern me but we are playing Haiti so my only concerns are: 1. Will we beat ourselves? 2. Will Haiti hurt people? Aside from those there is little to be concerned about. But the match must be played and I will be watching. I just hope the referees do not have too much effect. However this is CONCACAF and it is entirely possible that just about anything will happen with the exception of real entertaining soccer. I am currently watching a Club World Cup match but, in this case, I will switch to the Gold Cup at halftime. It will be a shock to go from watching a pair of decent teams in a mostly filled stadium to watching a pair of CONCACAF teams playing in a nearly empty stadium. Of course I could be surprised by the crowd and that would be a good thing even if most of them are Haitian.
Haiti lineup Goalkeeper: Placide - 37 year old French Native who's earning his 73rd cap. He did get some Ligue 1 minutes back before 2016 but it's been League One, Bulgaria, and Ligue 2 since. He played every minute for Bastia in Ligue 2 this season Left Back: Experience - 26 year old French Native who's whole pro career has been in France's third tier, though his club were promoted this season, so he should be getting his first crack at Ligue 2 with Nancy. LCB: Metusala - Huge loss as one of their best players Duyerne is suspended for the red he picked up against Trinidad. They will instead turn to the 25 year old Montreal Native who plays for Colorado Switchbacks in USL RCB: Ade - 35 year old who did spend a season in The NPSL back in 2014 but has been in South America since 2017. He is a starter for The Ecuadorian Champs LDU Quito Right Back: Arcus - 28 year old who's spent most of his career in Ligue 2 or The Eredivise, but did get a move to a Ligue 1 club for this previous season where he started for Angers Left Wing: Providence - 23 year old who came up through The PSG and Roma Academies. He played for Almere in The Dutch Top Flight this year (though they were relegated), where he almost never started but did come off the bench in nearly every match LCM: Jean Jacques - 25 year old who played youth soccer in Brazil before making his pro debut in Haiti. He spent 3 season in France with Metz, one for their second team, one in Ligue 2, and one in Ligue 1 after they were promoted. He signed with The Philadelphia Union in 2024 where he is a starter RCM: Pierre - 27 year old who's spent his entire career in the 2nd or 3rd tiers of France. Currently starts for LB Chateauroux in France's third tier. His club was relegated to the 4th tier this past season Right WIng: Deedson- 24 year old who spent his teenage years in Georgia and one year at Atlanta's Academy. He left for Denmark a few years ago where he spent the past couple seasons with OB. They were in the 2nd tier this past season however were promoted to Denmark's top flight Striker: Nazon - French Native who's played all over the place. Ligue 2, India, Championship, League Two (England), League One, Scotland, Belgium, Bulgaria and for the last 2 seasons Turkey. He's a starter and bag 8 goals and 4 assists for the team that finished 13th in Turkey Striker: Pierrot - Born in Haiti, grew up near Boston and attended Northeastern University before transferring to Coastal Carolina and getting drafted by Colorado. He never actually signed with Colorado though and instead had stops in Belgium, Ligue 2, and Israel before moving to AEK Athens this year. He started about half their games, scoring 6 goals
Concacaf broadcast is doing work with the crowd shots. This crowd could have fit in the Ford Center at The Star like the WNFC Championship Game.
Haiti will be a good physical test. Jacques was a main reason that Philly moved on from McGlynn and shipped him off to Houston.
Very concerning that Poch isn’t resting more starters. It seems he doesn’t see the value in that during tournament play in the summer.
Not quite as much rotation as I’d like. Hopefully that doesn’t become a problem later in the tournament.
If I have read correctly we will have a week off before our next match (I am basing that on another poster's post) so rest is kind of meaningless. But I do think that "important" players that have not played should play in this match.
That was absurd from Adams . . . imagine doing that in a WC knockout game? 1st minute, midfield, plenty of cover. That was idiotic.
