I'm not a Zusi fanboy, and would have definitely selected Lichaj over him, BUT he's a decent RB back up option if we need. He's not going to do anything fancy but we rarely seem be outclassed either.
See, I think the whole idea of a GC with your B-team is that you take chances, learn about fringe options, youth, players with questions marks. Zusi starting just feels so uninspired. We already know what he is. We already know he isn't going to be anything more than a "we have no other choice but to start this guy because everyone else is dead" option in Russia. Why not learn more about other options? You're playing with house money in this tourney...
Zusi's too slow to play at a higher level, I would have smoked that dude in my younger years, he reminds me of Bartra. He better doesn't make any runs.
I like these new kits more than most of the recent post-Waldo and Centennial kits, but it does kinda say "US Rugby" more than "US Soccer."
Zusi is a complete waste as any decent squad with pace on the flanks will eat him for dinner. There's no purpose to it. Bruce is basically saying Zusi is the top American RB in MLS. That would be an entirely different set of problems.
I agree. I approve of about 90% of what Il Bruce has done to date, including this camp, but the Zusi RB experiment to me is his one notable headscratcher, and one that he seems intent to continue.
Chris Armas, Jeff Agoos, Now Zusi. BA likes to trot out one slow, old, already proved incapable defender in every lineup. Its like a talisman.
I think (hope) everyone's a little overconcerned about Zusi. Zusi's just in because it's a new backline and Lichaj's not in in-season form. He's going to get roasted, but at least he'll provide a bit of glue for Hedges' first start and a decent set piece taker - not a whole lot of that on the field. Guzan likewise with stability, but, as captain - that's more likely the unhealthy obsession.
