So low-rent, this thread. Pulling off to head to the game now. Hopefully, I get more excitement, like Wednesday.
This lineup was fairly predictable. Try to get a game for most of the players. And this lineup has a bit more experience to try to play against a side that the coaches perceive will be stronger than Serbia. I'm not expecting much.
On paper this should be very easy we are at home and we are no more depleted than Colombia. However it is almost genetically ingrained in the USA that we often make hard matches out of easy ones. If I were forced to bet on this match I would bet on a 0-0 tie but with all the players missing from both sides and the very low level of quality on both sides it could be anywhere from a 5-0 win for the USA to a 0-5 loss. I just hope there is enough decent play to keep me interested for the full match. But I am not even expecting as good a match as we played in losing to Serbia. BUT, what the heck, I need the sleep.
This lineup feels somewhat like the "A team" of the C team, but that makes sense as this Colombian side should be tougher than the Serbian side we played.
A 4-3-3 with Arriola Hoppe and Ferreira as wide attackers? Arriola Hoppe Ferreira Aaronson Acosta Williamson Tolkin Long Zimmerman Jones Johnson. Very high work-rate from that front three. Lets get it on!
Really don't want to watch Hoppe play for more than 45 minutes. I hardly doubt he would touch the field very much in MLS, even for bottom-half teams.
Perhaps you should revisit Hoppe's Gold Cup 2021 performances before you post something as ridiculous as that.
It was really noticeable how little Hoppe was involved when he subbed in the last game. Hopefully he shows better tonight
Perhaps you're right. I just have a hard time believing given how quickly his success happened, and then seemed to disappear.
Accomplishes what we need.... give everyone a look in the camp. My 6 subs: 46 - Celentano (Johnson) 60 - Vazquez (Hoppe), Cowell (Ferreira), Rogers (Long) 70 - Sonora (Williamson), Sabbi (Arriola)
Colombia lineup Goalkeeper: 27 year old who's spent his entire career with only 1 Colombian club, but just recently moved to a new one this offseason. Centerbacks: A 25 year old who did spend time at the Real Madrid Academy but has never played a pro game out of Colombia. A 28 year old who just moved to Turkey last year after stints in Argentina and at Queretaro in Mexico Fullbacks. Their LB is by far their most capped player, with 26. He's played over a 100 games for Boca Juniors. Their RB is a 20 year old for The Timbers. He didn't play at all last season until Portlands final 3 games (when they were eliminated). Not sure if he's expected to get more time this year. Mids: Their #6 is on loan in Turkey (the same team as their CB) from Boca Juniors where he's played over 40 games. The 8's are a Colombian League player without a Wikipedia page, and a 21 year old who plays for New England. He was a starter at the beginning of last season but was benched in July Wingers: Cucho Hernandez should be familiar to MLS fans. He joined Columbus mid season and was very good. He has 25 Premier League games and 79 La Liga Games to his name. On the right is Valoyes who was Alan Sonora's teamamte for a long time at Talleres before Sonora left. Striker: Arango should be familiar to MLS fans. Plays for LAFC, and was the 9th leading scorer in MLS this past season
I just saw footage of the players walking around the field with - I don't know - headsets. Are they listening to music while getting familiar with the terrain? Horrible. I think I'll watch the PBS special on Roy Orbison. Or, better yet, Sandra Bullock. I'm out.
I don't understand. Why would players wearing headphones and walking the field matter to anyone. When I played I would have loved to have headphones and a player playing The Beach Boys or Buddy Holly or just about any "modern" musician to listen to in the early part of warmup. Of course, way back then, the transistor radio was just coming into being and was very expensive. Of course, when the early part of my warmup was over, I would have abandoned the headphones because it was remotely possible that my coach might say something important. I understand that withdrawing into my own world makes it easier and faster to get mentally ready to play.
Telemundo has us lining up in a 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield, with Acosta as DM, Arriola and Williamson on the sides, and Aaronson at the top. Somehow I doubt that's how we're actually playing. If we're in a 4-4-2, I expect Acosta and Williamson as a double pivot and Arriola and Aaronson on the wings is more likely.
The ridiculous chanting is already at full volume. Those aren’t fans. They are failed theatre bums who insist on performing in public and forcing you to watch. So annoying.
That is what the mute button is designed to prevent. But I almost prefer the chanting to the inane announcers.
