I've been waiting for this article...

Article claims he was making $162,000, a lot more than previously thought.

Some other interesting comments in there as well.

Well that helps to explain the less-than-enthusiastic reaction to his assist Saturday.

Payne declined to specify players the team is pursuing, but did say "we need a big player who is comfortable close to the goal and who can score goals consistently."

    Gee, ya think?

Nice of Payne to finally recognize what most of us have been saying for a year and frikkin' half!

I think we've been saying that ever since ATC was let go.

Like him or not, but he's still the last United player to hit double digits in goals.

Where's Big Mama when you need him?

I hated him with a passion and he's a worldclass pain in the arse, he put the ball in the net.

If he puts on the United kit and scores goals with a quickness, I don't give a rat's behind where he played previously.

I could have sworn that the published figures in Soccer America during preseason showed exactly the $162K figure. Hence, it is the same number as previously thought, right? Maybe I'm confused...it is kinda late.

    Good Night,

Mamadou never played for a team in his life.

You are correct. Soccer America reported the $162k figure.

Well I guess that is true.

"But all I am saying is give Alecko a chance.... all I am saying is give Alecko a chance".

And lets be honest here. We do need another tall forward who's willing to scrap it up a bit out there.... but we also could use a defender. We were a bit lucky to get out of that match 3-1 this weekend with the poor marking on free-corner kick situations.

Luckily we can pick up quite a bit with the $162k we just freed up.

By the way, nobody's commented on it yet, but this line sure raised an eyebrow for me:

"I didn't feel they really wanted me on the team, from the beginning," said Cerritos."

I wonder exactly who he's refering to there. The players? The coaches? The fans? The front office?

Isnt kuffour a midfielder-striker guy. Maybe he's way better than most people think, or maybe santino woke up healthy one morning. Cerrittos was underappreciated, and a perfect example of this was when he scored that great goal against LA, but adu's goal overshadowed it. But im happy we cleared up some space.

I have a feeling he means from the beginning of camp this season and that the "they" is Nowak and the coaching staff. Cerritos was brought in as a Hudson guy, and it's clear that once Hudson left "we" (the coaching staff, front office, fans, perhaps even teammates) didn't really want him around.

I see, I thought people in the other thread were talking about a much lower figure. My mistake.

Ken Wright's take ... nothing enough there to merit its own thread.

    This is interesting though:
Why is that "like" there? Does that mean a forward similar to Ledezma or Herron, but not actually Ledezma or Herron? Or is this just poor editing from the Moonie paper?

I think it means "for instance" because they're not sure exactly who United is zeroing in on, and who United may have to settle for.

i'm assuming it was the latter, as there is no reason for him to use such relatively unknown players (to the average american fan) as the mold for what united is looking for in a forward.

The Soccer America article lists Cerritos as having a $147,000 base with $162,000 guaranteed. Now, I'm not sure which of those numbers counts against the cap.

but what now? as i see it, we need a defender and a forward. with ronald's salary, i believe that we could probably get a quality squad player for both positions at $75k-ish a peice.

but how much cap room did we have before this move?

if we had $50k or a $100k lying around before the waiving of cerritos, we could theoretically go after a near-max salary player for one of those positions. a prospect that i find very exciting.

Yeah I thought the same thing and it really didn't go a long way towards improving my already low opinion of Salvadorian players.

It seems very unprofessional and frankly Diaz Arce like. He f-ing knew he was here to score goals. He didnt and sometimes the cards just fall that way. Suck it up like a man and move on.

There was a rumor floating around the pressbox at the last game DCUnited was in contact with Steve Sampson during last week. I belive Ledezma and Herron are both on the CR National Team.

Who cares where he played before? I'm just not that convinced Mamadou is still an effective player.
