It isn't cold and wet and snowy in Europe in the winter? To be honest, as a player I'd rather play cold conditions than the summer heat in south Florida where play comes to a standstill. Mainly I am just venting because our league allows the international schedule to effect our playoff races.
I think the three-game window will continue after COVID has been dealt with. I wouldn't have a problem with MLS playing a fall to spring setup, but it would almost certainly involve some postponed and/or relocated games for Toronto, Montreal, Minny, New England, Vancouver, Chicago, NY (x2), Philly, DC and Charlotte going forward. All those cities risk deep enough snow to make their venue unplayable for the given game. The best thing about it is that it would allow us to play the CCL in mid season like the Mexican clubs do, once we get back there.
Yes, but not nearly so bad as the northeastern or midwestern United States. I've spent some winter time in northern Europe, and it's decidedly cold, but the precipitation wasn't as pronounced. Russia still plays in the winter, and their winter weather is no joke, so it can be done. I mean, the NFL is famous for playing in bad winter weather. But I'd rather not. I think we should just convince Mexico to switch to MLS's schedule. I'm sure playing in the Yucutan all summer would be awesome.
Miles starts again tonight for the US vs Jamaica. Based on talk amongst the pundits he is one of the few players now considered a lock for the first XI.
HT: 0-0 Jamaica lucky to not have had a player sent off for DOGSO. Miles with a pair of bad passes and allowed a shot that required a save by Turner.
FT: 2-0 US played much better in 2nd half. Better movent off the ball, which yielded more fluid passing, which yielded several quality chances. Miles was safe the 2nd half. Nothing much to report.
Red card for the Bosnians.... seems harsh to me. The tackle was on Acosta, but at first I thought it was Bello and my heart sunk. It looks like Acosta is fine.
Miles went 90 at Azteca. Hope he's good for another 90 in Orlando; he needs the reps right now. He also needs a clean game; he's been carded in his last three matches for club and country, if I recall correctly.
Josef appears to have played well for Venezuela in their shutout loss to Argentina. Not a ton of great service, but he looked dangerous.
https://www.uslchampionship.com/news_article/show/1226990 Atlanta United 2 announced on Wednesday goalkeeper Vicente Reyes had been selected by the Chilean national team for the upcoming FIFA international window. Reyes will train in Chile from May 30 to June 14 as part of a ‘projection group,’ where two of nine players will be selected to join the rest of the team in Asia for matches against South Korea and Japan. Previously selected for U-17 and U-15 squads, this is Reyes’ first callup to the senior squad.
Tyler Wolff called up to the U-20 tourney. My guess is Wiley would have been called up to if we had allowed it, but with Almada out...
Almada called up to the Argentina NT. Good for him, but it could be bad for Atlanta if he impresses. He may be only here for a year. Which might solve a different problem, although not in any way I'd prefer. Barco is still on the books, and he is not impressing on loan. If Atlanta can't offload him, they've got four DPs on the roster next year.
Pity has a heart condition, contract will likely be terminated with Al-Nassr. No longer with us, but has to suck regardless. I'm looking for a reputable link- just finding stuff from sites I haven't been to before.
Mikey Ambrose heads for the door. Thanks for the near post block against NYRB in 2018, and good luck going forward!
I'm sure y'all noticed, but in case you didn't, Almada was called up by Argentina for the World Cup! So Atlanta will have a player in the World Cup after all. He may not play at all, but if he does, and he's halfway decent, he's gone.
In which case, I'd like to think he'd be gone for a hefty fee. Personally, I think Atlanta has him for one more season, likely sold in the summer but loaned back to Atlanta for the remainder of the MLS campaign.
We should sign this Haaland kid.How did our Argentine pipeline miss him, apparenty he is a big Boca fan.
Not a current player, but he'll always be one of ours. Reports are saying Julien Gressel is getting a callup to camp cupcake after getting his American citizenship. Congrats Julien. Kick some ass.
