All right, I'll start a thread. Pretty meaningless game since United have already clinched 1st in the group. Just need to keep people healthy and give some of the younger players more experience. Preview
Carroll: G Nev, Blanc, Rio, O'Shea; Ole, Butt, P Nev, Richardson; Fletcher; Forlan. Bench of Ricardo, Becks, RVN, Giggs, Scholes, Pugh, Webber. Or could be 4-4-2, with P Nev on the right of midfield.
Whistles for Larry White making his return to the first XI!!! I hope O'Shea has a cracker of a match today...
lets face it, the likes of Rudd and them are getting a rest and if we find a nugget (like John O' Shea) that was languishing in our reserves then we've done well. the big thing is no more injuries to our 1st teamers. if we draw or win, then even better.
Final is 1-1, about what you'd expect. I listened on the Internet, so I can't really analyze what was going on. But it does sound like Basle had the better of play in the first half and United the better of play in the 2nd. A couple close chances for Ole and Forlan that weren't converted. At least no one appears to have gotten hurt.
No injuries as far as I can tell. Fletcher got a standing ovation when he was subbed off for Beckham. Not bad for a 19 year old!
At least Forlan is back. Came back sooner than expected. G. Neville with the goal and a chance to add one more. Probably be the man of the match.
A good result for essentially a reserve team against Basel who've played some decent football in the CL. Everyone should be well rested to thrash Villa on Saturday.
Decent result in a game that doesn't really mean much but, call me a fanatic if you want - I sitll say our reserve boys should have won. Seriously - we had quality in that lineup.
The ManU Matchtracker said it was for Fletcher - that's all I have to go by. Also, as appreciated as Beckham is at OT, I seriously doubt the crowd would give him a standing ovation for coming on in the late stages of a meaningless game.
This is his first match since his quotes in this thread - https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37905 Although, I'd like to think that Fletcher did well enough to earn the ovation himself.
I dare say its for fletcher, ferguson has been lauding him today and he was one of the best performers last night overall. Give him a cap Berti!
Man Utd escape Uefa action Penalize a team that won their first four games in the group to qualify for the quarter-finals? Bizarre. If they should penalize anyone, Bayer Leverkusen look like a good candidate. They're fielding their reserves in CL competition, and resting their regulars, as they're in danger of being relegated in the Bundesliga.
Well, United have lost one game in the last 23 CL appearances. They clearly need to be penalized for such poor effort.
