I want to make a list of, well, unique club traditions. I’ll list all of the ones I can think of, and yall will get the idea, and add to it. 1. The Minutemen firing their muskets after the Revs score 2. The RSL anthem 3. The slab of wood for Timbers goal scorers 4. Montreal’s bell 5. Minnesota’s Wonderwall 6. Nashville's game opening riff 7. Charlotte fans doing the Poznan (not world unique, but MLS unique) 8. LAFC’s falcon 9. Atlanta’s spike Get the idea? Not every club has something. DC United doesn’t.
Actually, unlike nearby Levi’s Stadium (SF 49ers’ home), PayPal Park isn’t actually in a flight path. No plane flies over it. -G
How old is that tradition? Because my Carolina Hurricanes have a guest do the same thing with a Hurricane siren before the game. I was not aware of this one, at all. Thanks!
If you want fan (and not team) traditions you could also add the 25+ year tradition Rapids fans have of Jameson Night whenever the Revs are in town. Though those are few and far-between these days with the current scheduling.
Since 2022 the Union have had a pregame drum striker. For home wins the SOB's pick a player of the game who then strikes the drum as well.
I think it started in 2023. For a few years before that, we had the B.A.D. (Big Ass Drum), though they may have later decided that it wasn’t distinctive enough and replaced it with the earthquake siren. I’m glad that I could help. -G
I’m not sure, but I do know that Krazy George still shows up in San Jose now and then when his health permits. -G
You guys love stealing stuff from North Carolina! You got the siren from the Hurricanes, and the Panthers have long had a drum and pregame drummer. In their first Superb Owl season, linebacker coach Sam Mills was undergoing cancer treatment and started the franchise’s slogan, Keep Pounding. Steph Curry has done it at least once.
