I agree it's concerning to see Trusty get dropped in favor of Collin. However, that quote ignores the fact that Jack Elliott is also a young player drafted and developed by the Union (and you know, saved a goal and scored a goal to win the last game). It doesn't bother me that McKenzie isn't seeing the field ahead of Elliott because that's not an example of winning now at the expense of youth. Also, Aaronson is still so young, and he was never intended to be a starter on this team either with Fabian and Monteiro both healthy. Him being a bench player is exactly what was intended.
I fail to see how practicing every day with a team of veterans in first place hampers the development of the players. Playing Aaronson over Monteiro or McKenzie over Elliott or Fontana over Fabian or Freese over Blake or even Trusty over Collin would be ridiculous. Regardless of what Earnie Stewart (who is now in charge of the USMNT) said, the goal of the Union should be to win, not player development for the USMNT .
Right, is the team supposed to pretend they're beating out veterans just in order to drum up business on the transfer market?
There's some validity to the argument that playing Trusty over Collin might result in a greater net return if it allows the team to sell Trusty on, even if it causes the team to lose a few points in the standings. But, when you have a first place team and every point counts at this stage, the goal should be more potential points and not more potential money.

Talent seems to run in the family. Report: Paxten Aaronson signed to Philadelphia Union homegrown contract https://t.co/8rERkUSRbM— Philadelphia Soccer Now (@phlsoccernow) August 14, 2020
It should be taken with a grain of salt given his relation, but Brenden seems sincere in his praise. It's interesting that he mentions his sister being a winger as opposed to her brothers, so it sounds like they have a similar center-mid role. Brenden's position/role remains in flux, I suppose at 16 Paxton's would be as well. It makes you wonder how much of their positional development is a function of coaching vs things just falling into place.

For those who have SiriusXM, Ernst Tanner was interviewed today on United States of Soccer. Episode is available on demand, and he's on first as well. Gave some good info on the process of Aaronson being sold. Also said that they have not fielded any real offers for McKenzie currently. Said that the transfer money from Aaronson's sale will be spread out between reinvesting in the Academy, infrastructure, and first team players.
