In what should be the first of many national team call-ups for Union players over the years, Amobi Okugo and Jack McInerney get the initial national team call-ups (albeit for the U20 team) for Union players for the Copa Chivas tournament (USA to play Brazil and some youth teams from Mexican clubs). http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-20-MNT/2010/01/Rongen-Finalized-U20-MNT-Roster-for-Copa-Chivas-Tournament.aspx CHICAGO (Jan. 18, 2010) -- U.S. U-20 head coach Thomas Rongen has finalized a 20-player roster that will travel to Guadalajara, Mexico, to compete in the 2010 Copa Chivas tournament. The team will play first round games in Group B of the tournament with Brazil, and clubs from Atlas, Pachuca, Saprissa and Tigres. The U.S. will travel to Guadalajara on Jan. 20 and return to their clubs and colleges on Jan. 31. The roster includes four professionals, including three who were recently chosen by Major League Soccer teams in the recent MLS SuperDraft. Amobi Okugo and Jack McInerney were both first-round picks by the Philadelphia Union, while defender Zac Herold will join third-year pro Fuad Ibrahim in Toronto FC. Rongen’s two goalkeepers include a pair of FIFA U-17 World Cup veterans in Zac MacMath, who started two games at the 2007 event in Korea Republic, and Earl Edwards, who went the distance in all four games in Nigeria 2009. Edwards, now enrolled at UCLA, will be joined by 10 of his teammates from the 2009 event in Guadalajara, including McInerney and Herold. Roster By Position: GOALKEEPERS (2): Earl Edwards (UCLA; San Diego, Calif.), Zac MacMath (Maryland; St. Petersburg, Fla.) DEFENDERS (7): Michael Ambrose (FC Dallas; Frisco, Texas), Bryan Gallego (NY Red Bulls; Kinnelon, N.J.), Moises Hernandez (FC Dallas; Dallas, Texas), Zach Herold (Toronto FC; Port St. Lucie, Fla.), Perry Kitchen (Akron; Indianapolis, Ind.), Emilio Orozco (Rampage FC; Oxnard, Calif.), Eriq Zavaleta (FC Pride; Westfield, Ind.) Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament This is the first time we've seen someone's club listed as Philadelphia Union on a call-up list, no? Pretty awesome.
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament Shavar Thomas was also called in for Jamacia's team, but for the USA, yes.
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament Yeah I wasn't sure about Thomas. Cool either way
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament Its great to see it know...but wait till someone gets hurt on national team duty, or it happens in the middle of the season!
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament thanks a lot, Jinxie
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament Its the Philadelphia Sports thread taking over.
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament Shavar was indeed called into the Jamaica squad for its upcoming January 31 game against Canada, so he should be the first player to get a full international cap as a member of the Union. Goalkeepers Dwayne Miller (Harbour View) Duwayne Kerr (Portmore United) Andre Blake (Glenmuir High, Sporting Central) Defenders Jermaine Taylor (St Georges SC) Shavar Thomas (Philadelphia Union) Dicoy Williams (Harbour View) Demar Stewart (Chengdu Blades) Adrian Reid (Portmore United) Linval Lewis (Sporting Central) Rafe Wolfe (Ferencvaros) Midfielders Jason Morrison (Ferencvaros) Richard Edwards (Harbour View) Nicholi Findlayson (Waterhouse) Je-Vaughn Watson (Sporting Central) Kenardo Forbes (Waterhouse) Lovel Palmer (Harbour View) Keammar Daley (Tivoli Gardens) Andre Steele (Harbour View) Romena Bowie (Manchester High, Mike Gully FC) Marvin Morgan (St George's College) Ricardo Morris (St James High, Village United) Forwards Omar Cummings (Colorado Rapids) Luton Shelton (Valerenga, NORWAY) Devon Hodges (Rivoli United) Navion Boyd (Tivoli Gardens) Christopher Waugh (Wolmer's Boys) Allan Ottey (St James High, Village United) Peter Keyes (Boys' Town).
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament its probably a little strange, but U-20 might be the prime outlet for getting young Jack mack playing time. Without the reserve league, it might be the most consistent way this year or next perhaps. Weird to think about.
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament agree, he should have lots of free time, as i suspect he's 3rd or 4th forward right now.... i think okugo is closer to MORE minutes though... and when does congo start calling in mwanga to play?? when does the 1st union player get an official cap for usmnt...in a real match, NOT camp cupcake... this is wcq for 2014....or next gold cup, more likely there??
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament mwanga is not cap tied and has expressed interest in playing for the USA though he would need to go through citizenship. As mentioned above, Shavar Thomas will be the first Union player to get a full internation cap with Jamaica, but my money is one Califf getting the next one with the USMNT in a friendly this spring.
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament Under the new FIFA rules, since Mwanga attended high school in teh US, isn't he eligible to play for us?

Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament this will be the answer to a trivia question on one of those "philly union daily calendars" in like 25 years
Re: USA U20 National Team Call-Ups for Okugo and McInerney for Copa Chivas Tournament Haha. I have an Eagles one every year at work.
Re: US National Team Call-Ups Indeed, our first senior USMNT call-up. Looks nice, if you ask me Hopefully Seitz will also get in there in the future.
