While I agree with you, what else do people do on message boards but bitch and moan.

The team can take that nice pile of money and invest it in the academy and sign some highly talented players and that will allow us to never finish bellow those douchebags from the north again.

Who started the chant: "You're all of bunch of Bimbos" chant during the Chivas Mexico game? ME!!! Karma is a bitch.

Do you think the FO is going to complain when it is changed to "We're all a bunch if Bimbo's" a la the "Nobody likes us" chants from Millwall or other clubs of that genre?

There was a time oh-so-long-ago when everyone loved the news coming out of the Union's FO ... logo, name, home shirt, manager selection, etc. Now that they've broken in their shiny new toy, they're finding all the negatives about it. It's sad.

    IOU rep for this.

Horsham is now its own country? Do I need a passport to go to the Iron Abbey now?

My guess is that most if not all of the Bimbo products you can buy in Pennsylvania are manufactured in the United States.

Would you have the same reaction to Panasonic, Apple, Subaru, QVC, or Citizens Bank?

Because that's exactly what Bimbo are paying for -- to convince people that their name is mainstream and has nothing to do with anything "inappropriate." The Union doing something that reinforces the idea that "bimbo" is a bad word wouldn't just be nonproductive, it'd be counterproductive.

Can we even use Pink Cows anymore? Glass houses, etc...

Why oh why couldn't we have "Entemann's" on our shirt? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the USA flag logo, at least.

I like it! -- unique and soccer-oriented. I think it has a better vibe than Comcast, Verizon, or some other huge impersonal corporation would have had. Plus, this is an international game with a ton of foreign players on our team, so I don't understand concerns about this Mexican/Horsham co.

Re: Philadelphia Uniform Sponsorship Speculation (Catch All Thread)

Tell that to Jane Soccermom. It'll take more than some billboards and a soccer jersey sponsorship to make the name mainstream and convince her that little Johnny will get the new Union 3rd shirt for his birthday when it has "BIMBO" (gasp) emblazoned across the chest. I guess in the grand scheme of things the team's willing to lose out on some jersey/apparel sales in the short term and count on the larger advertising opportunities by having Bimbo's name used league-wide. They'll still be getting their $3M/year regardless of how apparel sales go from here on out.

DISCLAIMER: I'm not against the sponsorship, FWIW.

Re: Union Jersey Sponsor - Say Beembo!

    This is very exciting news!

Now, all I'm hoping for is that they replace the ugly gold kits with a white away kit and perhaps a baby blue third kit. Any takers? Like a SoB kit for a third or something.

Maybe they can also use some of the money to sign a "name" from Europe. While I am on the fence about such a strategy, I am for any move that gets the Union some more attention locally and internationally.

Kinda bummed it's looking like the standard BIMBO logo. Perhaps the "Say Beembo" logo would be better, haha. Imagine the Fly Emirates logo (Arsenal, AC Milan) but saying "Say Beembo" on the Union kits.

Re: Union Jersey Sponsor - Say Beembo!

After the massive number of false and misleading stories I read about Beckham on loan to the Spurs (from legit periodicals, too) I kind of feel like the "official" Bimbo article off philly.com may just be speculation.... the big red flag in the situation? Keeping the Bimbo symbol red white and blue on the jersey... not only does that just look awkward but it violates MLS jersey sponsor rules.

And dammit, it's not like "Bimbo" and "Beembo" are really different.

"No, don't say Bimbo. Say Bimbo with a Spanish accent. Much better."

Yeah, I'm not saying it won't hurt sales. I'm saying they're getting $3 million dollars a year to put it on every shirt whether it hurts sales or not.

Thing is, these "rules" aren't laid out anywhere on the league's site, are they? If the money's there, I'm sure Garber et al would be willing to bend on some "gentleman's agreement".

I still think the writer may have just assumed that what's on Chivas jerseys is going to be on Union jerseys as well. (Though it wouldn't shock me if indeed the logo ends up being red white and blue).

To my mind the best possible implementation is just text and stripes on the jersey without the logo box:

Eh, It's those same soccer moms that will be buying Bimbo products for their own households. Good point but I don't think that'll be an issue.
