Bad result in the first game in Zagreb today. We were two goals down after 11', and failed to recover, falling to a 2-0 defeat. A bit of a disappointment but understandable given the loss of some players to injuries and the senior squad.

The second game is at Easter Road on Tuesday night.

Hopefully there will be a big turn out at Easter Rd for the return.
I still think we have good chance as long we keep things tight for the first half hour.
It will also be strange going to Easter Rd and cheering on the "home" team !!!!

1-0 Scotland (Gary O'Connor 12 mins) - not enough sadly......think there may have been about 10000 at the game.
Lots of chances to square the tie but the longer the game went on the more comfortable Croatia looked.

They are still a bunch of cheating, diving Balkans though !!!!

Not a bad effort tonight, but I think we were done in by the injuries to Kyle and Maloney. This on top of other factors (poor coaching decisions, matches in quick succession, slight lack of quality in some positions) cost us.

I wouldn't blame the Croatians, they were only largely doing what our senior team will be doing tomorrow night if we are still winning on aggregate late in the game.

    Possibly.

I was surprised by how little the Croats attacked us. It seemed like they were utterly confident that they would not have to score another goal - which was a bit bizarre, considering that the opening goal came from a free header in general play, and this had come after us coming very close twice, all in the first ten minutes. Perhaps they would have attacked more if we had scored a second goal. Having said that, we only came very close to scoring once at 1-0 (an excellent close-in save just before half time).

For whatever reason, they didn't look like a side that will win the competition - unless we are much better than I think we are, and I doubt this. So perhaps the report was talking up the match too much generally (Croatia as well as ourselves). There is no doubt that both sides would be better for having their star U21 players - but this applies to many countries.

    Unfair!

Its kind of unfair that we won the group and didn't qualify automatically while the Germans finished 2nd and beat Turkey to go through! :(

Why is it unfair that we beat Turkey over two games? Due to the performances, that was deserved...

It's unfair that Scotland beat Germany and don't go to the Championships and they do. How would you feel if Germany had to go into a playoff for euro 2004 and lost and Scotland won? Oh well it just means it isn't all the best teams in the competition ;)
